Considered to be the first American "epic" directed by a woman.
Anna Pavlova's debut.
Restored in 2015 from 35mm print held by BFI and 16mm print from New York Public Library.
This movie is sometimes included in the filmography of Boris Karloff but his presence is unverified and Karloff himself never mentioned having worked with Anna Pavlova.
Some palace exteriors were shot at Dr. A.G. Castles's Sans Souci residence (also known as Schloesser's Castle; Schloesser was Castles's birth name) at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Argyle Street in Hollywood. The distinctive structure was used in several films, most notably Tillie's Punctured Romance (1914) two years earlier, before being demolished in 1928.
