Mrs. J .G. Nottingham ( Gertrude Le Brandt ) instructs her attorney to find a homely girl to whom she will bestow her millions, in order to spite her scheming daughter-in-law, Emily Nottingham ( Eugenie Forde ). Annie Johnson ( Mary Miles Minter ) an unattractive orphan who works at a department store, is discovered by the lawyer and is accepted as the sole heir of Mrs. Nottingham's fortune. Annie also wins the affection of the old woman, and the generous attention turns her into a very lovely girl and soon Emily's son, Willard Kaine Nottingham ( George Fisher ) takes notice and falls in love with Annie. When Mrs. Nottingham dies, Emily contests the will and wins the inheritance for herself, but Annie has the last laugh when she accepts Willard's proposal of marriage.
