Mary Miles Minter plays Pat, a little orphan who has been raised around a circus. She has been the protégée of Toto, (Neely Edwards) the clown, who has hopes of marrying the beautiful girl. When the circus arrives to a Southern town, Pat meets handsome Dick Beverley, ( Jack Mulhall ) son of an aristocratic family. He decides to take a job as a trick rider, just to be near Pat, much to the anger of his parents. Dick brings the girl home and she tries to learn social graces under the scrutinizing eyes of his parents. Problems take a turn for the worse when the circus troupe pays a visit. Dick's bratty little brother spikes the punch and the group gets drunk and are thrown out by Dick's furious parents. However, a happy ending prevails when the little brother confesses to the intoxicating prank, and Dick and Pat are given his parents blessings to get married.
With this being a presumed lost silent, it was hard to find an in-depth synopsis for the reader. Only a fragmentary print exists (of about one reel) in the Library of Congress film archive. I would like to know what became of Toto the clown who was setting his hopes on marrying his protégée Pat.
