Alice is Stage Struck (1925)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Alice and her friends are putting on a stage version of Uncle Tom's Cabin when the director's demands for more snow has him accidentally dropping a heavy object on Alice's head. Soon she and her cat are in a snow-land where they run into an evil landlord wanting money. ALICE IS STAGE STRUCK is another good entry in the series, although it's certainly not the strongest of the group. I think there are a couple interesting factors here that will make this appeal to film buffs. The first is the obvious one that its mix of animation and live action was just simply extremely good even when viewed today. Another one is for the climax of this film, which is clearly a wink to D.W. Griffith's WAY DOWN EAST as our heroes find themselves stuck on a ice going down a river. The comedy isn't as strong as one would hope for but this is still worth watching.
