Ben Cohen was a writer as well as a director. In fact, he wrote so many scripts throughout his long Hollywood career that he was obliged to use at least six variations of his own name, plus two entirely different pseudonyms. I imagine this effort is pretty typical, namely competent and reasonably fast-moving, but – aside from making good use of his so-so locations – nothing special. Here, however, matters were complicated because Cohen was saddled with Francis X. Bushman, Junior. Alas, Junior not only doesn't look a bit like his famous dad, but he doesn't take after him in charisma at all. True, Junior's acting could be described as "competent" – but no more so than the abilities of at least a million other people who have vainly knocked on Hollywood's portals throughout the years. The rest of the players, led by Mildred Harris and Jack Perrin, are reasonably presentable – especially Miss Harris. All in all, however, I agree with the movie's producer who didn't even bother to pay the piddling fee to copyright the picture, because he knew full well that no-one in their right minds would even dream of stealing it!
