The props department for this film had a young John Wayne as one of its employees. This is one of Wayne's earliest IMDb-recognised roles, and came at a time when he was only receiving uncredited, minor parts in films.
Each day for three weeks spectators lined the Glenwood Canyon (CO) road to watch Tom Mix, Tony the Horse and the rest of the troupe complete the exterior shots. Mix performed all his own stunts, including rappelling down the walls of Glenwood Canyon. Mix and his horse also galloped the length of Shoshone Dam in one of the movie's chase scenes.
In July 1926 Tom Mix arrived by train in Glenwood Springs, CO, for the shooting. He was accompanied by his family, 55 cast and crew members and 22 horses, including Tony the Horse, who was just as popular as his human counterpart. Two Pullman cars and two special baggage cars conveyed Mix's company and equipment.
One of the cards describes the character Burton Holt as: 'Cullen's secretary. If he's a college man, it must have been Vassar.' That women's college did not become coed until 1969.
The character DeLuxe Harry says that he served with Mix's character at Verdun. The World War One Battle of Verdun was fought from 21 February to 18 December 1916 on the Western Front in France. The battle was the longest of the First World War and took place on the hills north of Verdun-sur-Meuse.
