Béla Balázs publicly disowned the film prior to its release, though his detractors construed (falsely) that he did so after it received poor reviews, which largely attack his script. He felt that the script was so abused that he went to court over screenwriter's rights, and lost, (as he expected) which he believed in itself would prove the corruption of the system.
