Carole Lombard's comic timing paved the way for the likes of Goldie Hawn and Meg Ryan. Aliya salutes the actress's life and work...
In the film Twentieth Century (1934) John Barrymore pins a star to the door of Carole Lombard's dressing room and calls it, "the golden mark that henceforth sets you apart from the world..." Lombard was exactly that - so talented, so funny, so beautiful, that she seemed apart from the rest of us. At the birth of the talkies, and at the height of the screwball comedy, she did, undoubtedly, carry the golden mark of stardom.
Lombard was the original ditzy comedienne, with perfect timing for a good line and explosive chemistry with her co-stars. She had a wonderful speaking voice, clear and warm, and a vital presence as she strode through fast-paced scenes. Equally at home with physical and verbal comedy,...

Actor best known for her role as a go-go dancer in Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
The actor Tura Satana, who has died aged 72, lived a life as eventful as the plots of the lurid B-movies that made her a star. Almost 6ft tall and trained in martial arts, she specialised in a kind of tough charisma that has rarely been matched on screen.
She was best known for her role in the Russ Meyer sexploitation movie Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965, tagline: "Superwomen! Belted, buckled and booted!"). As Varla, the leather-clad leader of a gang of thrill-seeking go-go dancers, Satana was given an opportunity by Meyer to perform her own stunts and choreograph fight scenes, as well as to adlib dialogue. She responded by channelling a kind of controlled rage, stating in an interview: "I took a lot of my anger that had been stored inside for many years and let it loose.

Sarah Palin set the spirit for 2010 when she declared from her favorite soap box, "English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!" Celebrate we will. The popular political vocabulary got a little more colorful this year thanks to the likes of Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, and Eric Massa (Remember him?). Watching the legislative sausage get made elevated a few select phrases from the committee room nomenclature to everyday chatter. Plus, the midterm campaign delivered its share of funnies, verbal souvenirs which will take with us into the new year.

In some races, there are large gaps in the number of friends various competitors have. Is that an indicator of how they'll do at the polls?
In Nevada, Republican challenger Sharron Angle is not only leading Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the polls, she’s also far ahead on the social nets. When we started writing this story, Angle’s Facebook page had 104,059 fans vs. a mere 14,348 for Reid. Angle is also leading when it comes to voter sentiment--by four points, according to the latest Rasmussen poll. And Facebook's public policy team says that Angle is piling on new supporters at a faster rate than Reid. In the last two weeks, Angle’s Facebook fan base grew by 10,500, vs. just 921 for Reid.
So does that mean Angle will knock Reid out of the Senate on election day next Tuesday? It’s anyone’s guess. We asked Facebook, and as far as they know,...

We had a frank interview with Scott Thompson of The Kids In the Hall, but Nerve.com got all of The Kids to give sex advice to their readers, starting with a girl that wanted to make sure she didn’t mess up the three-way her bisexual boyfriend wanted to have.
The Huffington Post appears to be unclear on the fact that Christwire.org is satire – they think so, but they’re not sure. The site should really come with a warning label. Or maybe right wingers should. Yeah the last one. Anyhow, they Illustrated some of the new 15 Signs Your Husband Might Be Gay.
