Terrible "comedy"
frankfob16 September 2013
I've never heard of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Norworth, and hopefully I'll never hear of them again. This is an absolutely awful "domestic comedy" about a battling husband and wife who do nothing but yell, scream at and insult each other in the bathroom when they get up in the morning. There's nothing even remotely funny in anything they say or do; both are talentless hacks with no sense of timing and don't work together well at all. Their main goal seems to be to outshout each other and there's a very disturbing scene where Norworth puts both hands around her neck and starts to shake her as if he was beginning to strangle her. DIrector Alf Goulding has done way, way better work than this--he directed several good Laurel & Hardy shorts--but this thing doesn't seem to have been directed at all; apparently Goulding just pointed the camera at these two dimwits and stopped a few minutes later.

What a waste of time, film, and everything else. This short is completely worthless. Avoid it at all costs.

The Second of Three Shorts

The Naggers' Day of Rest (1931)

** (out of 4)

Jack Norworth will always be remember as a writer and especially for doing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" but early in his career he appeared in three short films with his wife Dorothy Adelphi. In the film, Norworth is trying to shave when his wife busts in demanding the Sunday paper and for the next nine-minutes the do nothing but fight. This is the second of the three films in the series. I found the first one, THE NAGGER AT BREAKFAST, to be slightly entertaining simply because of how crazy and old-fashioned its humor was in today's times. This sequel really isn't any better or worse but I'm sure most people are going to be completely annoyed by everything going on. The back and forth fighting really isn't what I'd consider funny but at the same time there's just something strange about the entire film and its story structure. I'm guessing people back in 1931 found this type of humor funny but it certainly doesn't translate to today. I will say that this does come off as an early version of The Honeymooners, although Norworth never gets too worked up. There are a couple slight funny moments here but certainly not enough to make it a winning film.

Too scary Warning: Spoilers
When they started yelling I browned and started screaming. The more and more they went on, the scarier it got. I would say that this was not "comedy" and more like psychological horror. The first two, The Naggers Go To Breakfast and The Naggers Go South are quite funny, but this one is too horrifiying. The one before this, The Naggers Go Rooting is also pretty good, but less so than the others. Anyways, this short made me piss myself and almost run away when I tried to re-watch it after not touching it for years. In my opinion, this is scarier than every saw movie ever even imagined. 1/10 for me.
