Quotes

  • Helen : Would you be shocked if I put on something more comfortable?

  • Helen : I wanna be free! I wanna be gay and have fun! Life's short. And I wanna live while I'm alive!

  • Helen : Roy, you've no right to look so cool. I'm broiling. Feel!

Roy Rutledge : [caresses her cheek]  Yes, you are, aren't you.

  • Roy Rutledge : Having a better time than you expected, Monte?

Monte Rutledge : Marvelous. Been dancing with a beautiful brunette. Name of Elenor. She's perfect.

Helen : Oh, I'd imagine, you don't really think she's beautiful?

    Roy Rutledge : Kitty-kitty-kitty-kitty-kitty-kitty-kitty.

    Helen : Stop it. I'm not a a cat.

Roy Rutledge : Yes, you are.

    Helen : Well, if I'm a kitty, I'm a thirsty kitty.

  • Helen : Are we here?

    Monte Rutledge : Well, it's number 27.

Helen : Want to come up for a cigarette and a drink?

Monte Rutledge : Oh, really? You must be awfully tired.

Helen : No, I'm not. Come see my room. I've only had a place of my own for a week. It's a new toy.

Monte Rutledge : What a baby, you are.

[Helen sticks her tongue out to Monte]

  • Helen : You're not a bit like Roy are you?

Monte Rutledge : I should say not. Roy's frightfully high-minded. He doesn't approve of me.

Helen : He wouldn't approve of me either if he knew what I really liked.

Monte Rutledge : Doesn't he know?

Helen : No. When I'm with Roy, I'm the way Roy wants me to be. That's caddish, isn't it? But, I can't help it.

  • Helen : Why so gloomy?

Monte Rutledge : God, I'm rotten.

    Helen : I can't see it.

Monte Rutledge : Can't you? Well, then, you're rotten too!

  • Helen : Please.

[Capt. Redfield puts out his cigarette]

    Helen : That's a good boy.

Capt. Redfield : What a life it would be married to you.

Helen : Oh, you don't fancy it?

Capt. Redfield : Beastly, no smokes!

Helen : Think of all the money we'd save.

Capt. Redfield : What would we spend it on?

Helen : Oh, a diamond dog collar.

    Capt. Redfield : For me?

Helen : No, I'd buy a muzzle for you.

Capt. Redfield : You wouldn't spoil my beautiful moustache, would you?

Helen : No. We'd keep that in the parlor, under glass.
