I recently bought a DVD of comedy shorts from Pathé that were all released in 1930. Overall, they are among the unfunniest films I've ever seen....and "Two Fresh Eggs" is typical of the unfunny nature of the shorts.
When the film begins, Jimmy Aubrey and Al St. John are hungry and steal a roasted turkey when the opportunity arises. A cop sees them and gives chase. In the meantime, a restaurant has a walkout of the employees...and Al and Jimmy show up at the place while running from the cop. The owner thinks they are replacement employees and tells them to get to work...not realizing they are both complete idiots.
A major problem is Al St. John. While he was a good foil in the old Fatty Arbuckle shorts and COULD be funny, here he mostly makes goofy faces....and this simply isn't funny. As for Aubrey, he wasn't as bad...but that isn't saying much. To make it MUCH worse, there is a LOT of singing and dancing which add to the unfunniness AND featured some of the worst choreography I've seen...at least since ANOTHER one of the Pathé also featured the same pathetic dancing. Overall, no real laughs and try as I might, it is a very dull picture.
