Bad sound, poor script and Al St. John making faces: what less could you ask for? St. John and Jimmy Aubrey waste their time dropping dishes in a restaurant with two patrons, one boss and a floor show of eight. There's singing, but the sound makes it impossible to follow. There's dancing, but it isn't terribly well choreographed. And, as said before, there's Al St. John, who can take a fall, but that's the limit of his talents. Give it a miss.

Unfunny and a waste of time.

I recently bought a DVD of comedy shorts from Pathé that were all released in 1930. Overall, they are among the unfunniest films I've ever seen....and "Two Fresh Eggs" is typical of the unfunny nature of the shorts.

When the film begins, Jimmy Aubrey and Al St. John are hungry and steal a roasted turkey when the opportunity arises. A cop sees them and gives chase. In the meantime, a restaurant has a walkout of the employees...and Al and Jimmy show up at the place while running from the cop. The owner thinks they are replacement employees and tells them to get to work...not realizing they are both complete idiots.

A major problem is Al St. John. While he was a good foil in the old Fatty Arbuckle shorts and COULD be funny, here he mostly makes goofy faces....and this simply isn't funny. As for Aubrey, he wasn't as bad...but that isn't saying much. To make it MUCH worse, there is a LOT of singing and dancing which add to the unfunniness AND featured some of the worst choreography I've seen...at least since ANOTHER one of the Pathé also featured the same pathetic dancing. Overall, no real laughs and try as I might, it is a very dull picture.

Warning: Spoilers
Another "lost Pathe" "classic". In this stinker, two idiots (James Aubery and the usually funny Al St. John) are hungry. They're peering into a deli window when a worker comes out with a turkey. They konk the worker on the head and steal the bird. A passing cop sees them and a chase ensues. While running from the cop, they happen to run into a restaurant where the whole staff is going on strike. The only funny scene is the fat cook pushing everyone with his stomach. It goes downhill from there. The two idiots spy the waiter's and the cook's outfits on the floor and dress in them to disguise themselves from the cop and feast on the stolen bird. The cop, being as dumb as them fails to recognize them. They think they can now eat their stolen booty in peace when the owner comes in, mistaking them as the replacements from the employment agency. They never get to eat the turkey, which gets thrown on the floor constantly (YUCK!) There is a bunch of bad dancing and songs in between the (un)funny business. They finally get found out when the real staff from the employment agency shows up. Then the chase is back on by the cop. Not very entertaining, but not as bad as the other "lost classics" on the DVD.
