Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

The UK’s long-gestating Media Bill, which includes regulation of streaming services in line with broadcasters for the first time, has finally been rubberstamped in the King’s Speech.
King Charles III has just laid out the various laws that will now make their way through parliament – in the process becoming the first King to do so in seven decades – which features the long-awaited Media Bill. The speech is devised by the UK Prime Minister and read out by the monarch in a centuries-old ceremony in parliament.
Published earlier this year, the headline policy in the Media Bill is a move to bring the U.S. streamers under Ofcom’s regulatory framework, which would mean they can be fined up to £250,000 or restricted in the UK entirely if they break rules around harmful material that have applied to the public broadcasters for decades.

When director Yorgos Lanthimos approached production designers James Price and Shona Heath with a vision for his latest feature, “Poor Things,” the Venice sensation and Golden Lion winner that’s landed the filmmaker and lead actress Emma Stone at the forefront of this year’s Oscar race, the notoriously meticulous and demanding director had no shortage of notes for the duo. Nor did he have any reservations about the scale of what he wanted to achieve.
“When I first met Yorgos, he was talking about wanting to make a 1930s studio movie, but with today’s techniques,” Price tells Variety. Supplying the duo with visual references ranging from the paintings of French futurist Albert Robida to Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula,” the director envisioned lavish, monumental sets built from scratch and glorious backdrops splashed across LED screens. He encouraged them to let their imaginations run wild.

Over the course of his years in the spotlight, Elvis Presley’s appearance and behavior drew criticism. When he rose to prominence in the 1950s, many worried that Elvis was a negative influence on young people. Though this concern lessened over time, particularly as other, more controversial groups rose to prominence, Elvis’ appearance still rankled some people. This included the person Elvis saw as the greatest living American, J. Edgar Hoover.
According to an FBI agent, J. Edgar Hoover wouldn’t have liked Elvis’ appearance
In 1970, Elvis visited the FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. with the hopes of seeing Hoover.
“Presley indicated that he has long been an admirer of Mr. Hoover, and has read material prepared by the director, including Masters of Deceit, A Study of Communism, as well as J. Edgar Hoover on Communism,” FBI agent M.A. Jones wrote in a memo, per the Washington Post. “Presley...

If I were into board games twenty or thirty years ago, I reckon my shelves would have more games like Damnation: The Gothic Game on them. As it stands today, Damnation: The Gothic Game stands alone as just about the only game here that relies on mechanisms that are no longer popular with modern gamers – specifically those involving rolling a die for movement, and player elimination. As things are today, with a general market preference for softer, kinder games, Damnation: The Gothic Game stands alone as a unique experience. It has rapidly become the meanest, most brutal and often most exciting game in my collection.
In Damnation: The Gothic Game, players each take the role of a villain inspired by literary or potentially historic characters who are thrust (presumably unwillingly) into Dracula’s Castle. Once there, they must move through the castle, explore rooms to find powerful weapons and items...

The legend of Dracula is explored from a new angle with The Last Voyage of the Demeter, based on “The Captain’s Log,” the seventh chapter in Bram Stoker’s influential novel.
The film’s home video release includes an audio commentary with director André Øvredal and producer Bradley J. Fischer, among other special features.
Here are eight things I learned from the Last Voyage of the Demeter commentary:
1. The Last Voyage of the Demeter spent 21 years in development.
Phoenix Pictures acquired the rights to the film, originally titled Demeter, over two decades before the movie made its way to the screen.
“It’s been a solid 21 years since my producing partners, Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer, and I, optioned the screenplay that we adapted into this film,” Fischer explains at the beginning of the commentary.
“And I’ve been part of it for something like three years, I think,” adds Øvredal.

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. Halloween is perfectly suited for watching movies at home – it’s the time of year where, conceivably, things start getting cooler and a cozy night in with your favorite horror movie is at its most appealing. Emily Carey of House of the Dragon, Claes Bang of the recent Dracula mini-series, and Suki Waterhouse of Daisy Jones & the Six have signed on to star in the psychological thriller Walk With Me, which will pit them against “a nightmarish creature from Celtic mythology”. According to Deadline, this is a European co-production with a European cast and will be filming in Europe sometime in early 2024 – so it’s not being made under a SAG contract and will be able to go into production if the Screen Actors Guild strike is still going on by then.

Dracula, one of the most popular horror creations in literature, continues to stoke the insatiable desire of fans over a century since he first flew out of the pages of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel.
The vampire lord’s bloody adventures have graced not just books but comics, films, TV shows, and other media. But few have looked under the cape to see how the undead man became the fearsome legend that entranced readers.
Now, just in time for Halloween, two veteran comic creators have teamed up to tell the story of how Dracula became Dracula.
Matt Wagner, the indie creator behind Mage and Grendel, and also known for his Batman work, and artist Kelly Jones, whose macabre stylings evoke horror artist Bernie Wrightson, are crowdfunding a graphic novel trilogy exploring the lore of the vampire king. The books will be 112-page gothic epics, with the first one titled Dracula – Book 1: The Impaler.

Renfield couldn’t even crack the $27 million mark at the global box office, and Demeter barely made it over the $20 million mark. Trying to recoup some of their losses, Universal gave The Last Voyage of the Demeter a VOD release just two and a half weeks after it reached theatres. Now it has been announced that the film will be receiving a digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release on October 17th – and it’s coming to home video with deleted scenes and an alternate opening.

Having earned five Academy Awards during his illustrious career as a writer and director, it would be difficult for anyone — especially serious movie critics — to acknowledge Francis Ford Coppola as anything less than a legend. Coppola, whose filmography includes the Godfather films, Apocalypse Now, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, has spoken to us several times over the years. Somewhat surprisingly, he admitted, he’s spent a lot more time thinking about the critics who have attacked his movies than the critics who have praised his movies, and he can only hope that time will change their minds. (Click on the media bar below to hear Francis Ford Coppola) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/coppola_Films_later.mp3 The Godfather films are currently streaming on Paramount+ and available on DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K, and most digital platforms. Film studios don’t get much more iconic than Hammer Films, the production company that defined the horror genre in Britain throughout the 1950s, 1960s and beyond, releasing classics including Dracula, The Curse Of Frankenstein and The Mummy. Whilst the studio’s repertoire expands beyond just horror movies, its back catalogue of monsters and more are its signature, and have had a lasting impact on the genre to this day. Nearly 90 years after Hammer was founded, they’re moving into a new era with the release of Doctor Jekyll – a modern take on the classic double-identity story, starring comedy and screen legend Eddie Izzard in the titular role.
Izzard plays Nina Jekyll, an infamous doctor who takes on some hired help in the form of ex-convict Rob (Scott Chambers). Little does Rob know, he’s part of a sinister master plan concocted by Nina’s alter-ego, Rachel Hyde. Chaos and weirdness ensures,...

Kevin Feige shocked Marvel fans everywhere when he welcomed Mahershala Ali into the McU family as the new Blade at this summer’s Comic-Con. The reboot of the Daywalker hasn’t actually been given a release date yet, but we know it can’t be too far away if Marvel has already hired its leading man. In fact, some new intel is now pointing to the studio working on bringing the rest of the cast together behind the scenes as well, which will likely feature many more big names.
For instance, We Got This Covered is hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us a Green Lantern show was happening, and that the real Mandarin will be the main villain in Shang-Chi – that Halle Berry is being eyed for a role in the Blade reboot. That’s all we can say on that for now as it’s...

There have been many versions of the ‘Dracula’ story aired on television or made as films, each of which is based on the original novel by Bram Stoker. The latest of these is an upcoming three-part miniseries that is set for release on BBC One and Netflix. The development of this series began back in 2017, although filming was not completed until August 2019. According to Metro, no official date for when the miniseries will air has been given. The most iconic vampire of all time is reemerging on the small screen courtesy of the BBC, and now we have the first look at the network's brand-new upcoming miniseries, Dracula. Although the teaser is less than a minute long, it's somehow still more than enough to give me nightmares (yippee) as it tracks Dracula's journey from Transylvania to London.
The show is based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, and hails from the creators of Sherlock. Actor Claes Bang - who's appeared in everything from The Square to The Affair - stars as the titular blood-sucker, while the rest of the cast will be rounded out by Mark Gatiss (who also serves as co-creator), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Morfydd Clark, John Heffernan, Dolly Wells, and Jonathan Aris.
Further details about the series are still being kept under wraps, but the 3-episode series will be broadcast on BBC One, as well as...

The BBC has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming new Dracula series, and it looks like it’s gonna be great! I really like what I’m seeing in this trailer; it’s got a wonderfully horrific vibe. I guess it’s not surprising that the series looks so good, after all, it comes from the producing team of Sherlock, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
The series is inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel, and Claes Bang (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) is taking on the role of the legendary vampire. As you’ll see, it looks like he was a fantastic choice. When previously talking about being cast in the role of Dracula, Bang said:
“I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Dracula, especially when the script is in the hands of the incredible talents of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and the team responsible for Sherlock.

If you’re a filmmaker in 2019 and you want to do a film based on Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” then you better have a damn good reason. Not that remakes and adaptations don’t happen all the time, but we’ve really seen quite a few “Dracula” films and TV series over the decade, with many being really great. But thankfully, it appears Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are bringing something unique to their adaptation of the horror classic, which is coming to BBC and Netflix soon.

Nuns with stakes at the ready, crucifixes, bats, and, of course exposed neck flesh all feature in the bloody first trailer for the hotly anticipated BBC and Netflix adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula story.
The dark teaser trailer comes complete with a “horror” warning label and does not disappoint fans of the genre. It opens with an image of blood splashing onto parchment before offering glimpses of a fly crawling into an eyeball, a gruesome dislodged fingernail, and a vampire in a crate.
To the strains of “Psycho”-esque music and screams, Claes Bang bares his fangs as the count. He ominously tells what appears to be a soon-to-be victim: “Stay calm – you’re doing very well.”
This series follows Dracula from his origins in Eastern Europe to his battles with Van Helsing’s descendant and beyond. The trailer dropped at London Comic Con over the weekend.

The BBC has lifted the coffin lid on the first teaser trailer for Dracula, its co-production with Netflix from the makers of Sherlock.
The three-part series, which stars Claes Bang as Count Dracula, is written by Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and produced by Hartswood Films.
The series, which finished filming in August, is inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel and will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy.
In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London, and judging by the teaser, the series will be full of gruesome nastiness that will not be for the faint of heart.
The trailer features blood-spattered letters, a fly in an eyeball, loose fingernails, and Bang whispering menacingly to a terrified victim: “Try and stay calm, you’re doing very well.”
Jonny Campbell (Westworld), Damon Thomas (Killing Eve) and Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) direct the series.

Get ready, horror fans! The first promo trailer for the up and coming Dracula TV show has just been released by the BBC.
The video teases us with the tagline “from the makers of Sherlock” and in case you didn’t know, Steven Moffat – who we all remember from the early days of the Doctor Who reboot – is on board as the show’s co-creator along with fellow Who writer, Mark Gatiss (our British readers will also remember Moffat from his time as the writer of the early 2000 sitcom Coupling).
Don’t let the video’s length put you off, though. It might only be 46-seconds long, but we can already tell that the series is going to be dripping with that classic Dracula-esque vibe; that gothic gloom mixed in with Moffat’s trademark TV writing. Oh, you can bet it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

Clap for The Wolf Man, folks: no Universal monster has endured the solitary pain of a cursed table for one like Larry Talbot; Dracula has his brides, and Frankenstein’s monster has his creator in his corner. Not so Larry, and especially not in the first of his adventures, The Wolf Man (1941), George Waggner’s classic tale of a lovable guy with an extreme follicle condition.
This wasn’t Universal’s first draw in the werewolf sweepstakes, however; that honor goes to 1935’s Werewolf of London starring Henry Hull, but his muted appearance kept audiences away. But after the success of their other monster franchises, they decided to give the lycanthrope another chance. This time it stuck.

An obscure comic hero became a founding father to the age of good Marvel comics movies and will be making his cinematic return soon enough.
Blade finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (played by Mahershala Ali) is a little different from the other comic characters in rebooted movies. Unlike, say, Spider-Man or Joker, Blade comes with a certain set of expectations that have less to do with his comic book origins, and more to do with the Wesley Snipes movies. Sure, there’s going to be the novelty of being in a shared universe, but a lot of Blade’s popularity comes from the previous movies and it's been long enough since Blade Trinity that they can reboot the series and still keep it feeling familiar.

Exclusive: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the key creative force behind Warner Bros. TV’s growing Archie comics-based TV universe, has lined up two high-profile new drama series projects, both in the gothic horror genre.
HBO Max has ordered a pilot and an additional script for The Shelley Society, a mash-up of gothic horror and teen romance featuring young Mary Shelley, which Aguirre-Sacasa co-created with Riverdale writers Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille.
Additionally, I hear Aguirre-Sacasa has a spec script, The Brides, a reimagining of the Brides of Dracula, about to hit the premium/streaming marketplace. It marks another collaboration with Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Prods., which produces Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Katy Keene.
The Shelley Society and The Brides are the first two projects to come out of the new mega overall deal Aguirre-Sacasa signed at Warner Bros. TV in April.
