Edward G. Robinson's wife at the time, Gladys Lloyd, appears uncredited as "Fan Yi". They were married from 1927 to 1956 and she would appear in five films with him from 1931-32.
Japanese-born Toshia Mori was up for the Chinese-American role of Sun Toya San, before it went to Loretta Young. Mori later admitted it was the biggest disappointment during the first five years of her career before she was signed as a contract player by Columbia.

Actor Charles Middleton has a very small role in this film. He went on to many memorable appearances playing Ming the Merciless in the "Flash Gordon" serial shorts starring Buster Crabbe in 1936.
