Based on the play "Bleeke Bet" written by Herman Bouber, who was the husband of title role performer Aaf Bouber. He is also credited for writing the dialogue of this film.
First film (co-)directed by Richard Oswald since he fled his homeland after the Nazi takeover.
For experienced (co-)director Richard Oswald this film was a routine job. He actually did not speak Dutch and didn't understand the script. Immediately after finishing filming he moved on to England and did not attend its premiere.
Although partly filmed on location in Amsterdam, part of the Jordaan district was recreated on the backlot of Cinetone Studio's in Amsterdam.
While the story takes place in the summer, it was filmed in the winter and wintertime in Holland used to be cold. Especially for the actresses, wearing light summer dresses, it was hard to act and sing in the cold. The songs were recorded live, there was no playback equipment yet.
