Sex & Nudity

  • As a brothel madam recuperates in the hospital, she and the head nurse discuss problems keeping personnel in their respective businesses. Two men use baseball metaphors to discuss relations with women including getting to first base and pitching.
  • A doctor at a hospital has a reputation as a womanizer; he is seen flirting with many of the nurses there. A man proposes to a married woman that they carry on an extramarital love affair; she declines.
  • A man proposes marriage to a woman multiple times, and she ultimately accepts.
  • A married woman states she is unable to obtain a divorce because her husband is insane and an inmate in a sanitarium.

Violence & Gore

  • Violence is implied when a man and woman are admitted to the hospital with a black eye and broken leg as a result of their altercation. Two wrestlers, as a result of a disagreement, get into a wrestling match while visiting a patient; they both end up being admitted to the hospital with bandaged heads.

  • Cigarette smoking is rampant throughout the hospital including doctors, nurses and patients. The protagonist's husband is a lush, drives drunk, and causes a serious car crash, ending up in a sanitarium.
