Not bad for a low-budget B.

"Rip Roaring Riley" is an action film that is pretty decent for a very low budgeted B....from tiny Puritan Pictures. Now I am not saying it's brilliant or a must-see...but it is fun, mindless entertainment.

This film features LOTS of action....almost as much as you'd see in a couple episodes of a movie serial! In in the opening scene, G-man Ted Riley is chased by some gun-toting baddies. One manages to take Riley prisoner...but since he is an action hero, he soon escapes. So where was Riley going when these jerks tried to kidnap him? Well, he's headed to Diamond Island to investigate....but since it's a private island, he arranges an 'accident' on his boat and it explodes.

One on the island, the Major and his men are about as friendly as wolverines. However, the Professor turns out to be an old friend of Riley's and he invites Riley to stay for a bit. This is a perfect opportunity for Riley in investigate. Soon it becomes apparent that the Major is a phony and although the Professor thinks he's working on a government project, the major and his men are using him to create a new poison gas!! Can Riley manage to outsmart the baddies AND save the Professor and his lovely (and eligible) daughter?

While I don't think this film is a must-see, it is entertaining and fast-paced. If you like old adventure films, this might just suit your needs. And, despite a tiny budget and mostly no-name actors, it's better than I expected.

Rip Roaring action

Warning: Spoilers
Government agent Riley is sent by his bosses to get the goods on Major Gray, a former military man, thrown out of the service because of an incident involving poison gas. Gray has set himself up on Diamond Island and is posing a government agent in order to get a new gas. Wrecking his boat as a means of getting on the island Riley goes toe to toe with Gray and his henchmen while trying to save the inventor and his daughter. Breezy action film essentially takes place over the course of a morning and afternoon. At times too silly and a bit leisurely paced (thanks to the silly bits), this is a fast moving little confection that takes slightly less then an hour to unfold and is over before you know it. Worth a look, just be sure to have something else to watch because this is the sort thing that isn't long for your memory.
