Oscar Micheaux plugged into the all-black musicals market by casting musicians for this film. He couldn't afford Lou Armstrong, but he enlisted the poor man's version of him. This was the era when Fred Astaire and musicals in general were en vogue. Even James Stewart was singing in musicals.
