This is the kind of movie Goebbels was against. A sentimental story.It made me cry all through out the film. It was sweet. The characters were sweet to mischievous . This was made when things began to get worst in Germany.The most Talented of all the actors the dog. A light colored mutt.Hans plays a dog catcher who is constantly being bugged by children as some of them try to get the dogs free.Now to the fair,You have Mady Rahl who works at the shooting gallery. You also have a carnival barker, played by Willi Shur , and his wife, played by Hilde Marowa, and his son who he abuses emotionally, played by 6 year old Peter Bosse, and his talented pet dog.Then their the quick drawing Artist,played by E. Helmer. Well Madi Rahl is selling the Gallery shooting game when one of her customers , a wolf ,is about to try the shooting gallery, The quick drawer,played by E Helmer, starts to draw this man with the mustache and shows it to him and he buys it. Mady is mad but E starts to draw a character picture of her and gives it to her and she laughs at it.The barker is mad at his son, Peter, for coming home late and is about to hit him.His mother,played by Hilde, stop that in their trailer. The next day the angry father , played by Willi , takes his son to an orphanage and dumps him.Crying, because of his abandonment, he's taken in.The next day He plays with the other kids out doors but doesn't come back.The dog catcher Hans got his dog.goes to the dog catchers home where he has the dogs in cages to try to get it back.Hans notices that he sleeping near the door way . So Hans lifts him up and the dog comes in and puts him on his bed to sleep.The next day he starts to get to know the boy.They do things together. Later on he tries to take him back to the orphanage and the kid is sad he has to go back.He all of a sudden decides to adopt him. So Peter and his dog goes back home with him and takes care of him.As the boy plays around with door bells,Mady Rahl shows up when he tries to play with the door bells and it's too tall she dos it for him . As she leaves and the door opens up it's the quick artist. E.invites her in and they start getting romantically involved. He try's to play a records on his 1900 crank RCA record player but the records breaks.The wife of the grain director ,played by Zoya Valevskya, with her chauffeur goes to the dog catchers place to pick up her dog that she got lost. She sees the boy and talks to him while the chauffeur get's the dog.Hans later goes to the pawn shop to hocks his violin to buy the boys shoes for Christmas. As he leaves he sees Mady Rahl going in their too. Later he has the tree up with the small presents. He gives the boy shoes and the dog a bone for Christmas.Then peter notices that there are no shoe laces to tie his shoes on. Then all of a sudden someone knocks on the door and comes in the police with some extra Christmas presents for the kid including shoes with laces. E and Mady meets at his place he gives her a present but when she surprise him with a bunch of shellacs only to discover that he had Hocked the record player for her presents. Well that really didn't matter to them. Hans starts to look for an extra job to help support better his adopted son but he has difficulty. Durring supper when the kid sees that his dad is starving himself for him . He gives him his food and goes out to figure what can he do to help out.He trades his small harmonica for a big one from a girl. He goes to the carnival and puts on a dog trick show in which afterwords the dog collects the money. His ex father ,played by Willi, sees that and kidnaps him to his trailer and steals his money. The kids sees this and goes to Hans to tell him so he can rescue. He goes to Willi and fights him away from the door so He can rescue Pete. The other boys throw mud at Wili. The boy is rescued. but Willi has Hans arrested. Pete goes to E and Mady about this. He then goes to the grain director,played by F.W. Schroder Schrom, and his wife to tell him about the situation. He gets in the car and picks up E and both get him out of jail. E and Mady get back together. Schroder gives his big dog to Pete, Both his smaller mutt and the big dog get along together and Pete and his dad Hans are happy together again.I think this is a varied remake of Jacki Coogans the kid
