Remarkably fresh for its age with charismatic lead
vildehl20 October 2019
When "Fant" was released in Norway in 1937 it was an instant hit, and all these years later it's still surprisingly fresh. And the main reason for both is Alfred Maurstad in the lead role as the anti-hero gypsy Fændrik. The role made him the biggest actor in Norway and it's still easy to see why. I was struck by how charming, natural and at ease his performance was, and despite how horrible the character could be you can't help but still be drawn to him. Truly the best and most charismatic actor in Norwegian film

The southern norwegian landscape is tranquil and beautiful, even in black and white, and the other actors are solid, well worth a watch!
