- Lawyer Bowdre has started a war between the ranchers and the homesteaders planning to take over the homesteaders land when they are wiped out. Rancher Dan Stockton, having just married homesteader Gail Dawson, is caught in the middle. He suspects Bowdre is behind the war and it's not long before he gets a chance to prove it.—Maurice VanAuken <mvanauken@a1access.net>
- Gail Dawson (Louise Stanley) and Dan Stockton (Bob Steele) are in love with each other, in spite of the fact a feud rages between their families. The Dawsons are a farming family living on Stirrup Mesa and the Stocktons are cattlemen. When the Dawsons plan to build a dam for irrigation purposes, the Stocktons fear it will deprive their cattle of drinking water, and they become bitterly antagonistic. Fearing a breakout of hostilities, Dan and Gail decide to get married at once, but even as they make their plans, Gail's cousin is shot from ambush. The Stocktons are blamed, and Boone Dawson (Frank LaRue)), Gail's father, forbids her to ever see Dan again. Dan has reason to suspect Gabe Bowdre (Karl Hackett) and his henchmen Blackie Fallon (Lew Meehan) and Mart (Jim Corey), but he is not inclined to have any part in the quarrel. He and Gail are married that night, and promise each other to remain neutral. However, this is impossible, as Hub Stockton (Frank Ball), Dan's father, is shot in the back and killed. Dan is still unwilling to fight, although neighboring ranchers insist that one of the Dawson clan shot his father. Gail declares that her people don't fight like that, and there is a rift between her and Dan. Egged on by Bowdre, members of the Stockton family decide to leave Dan and wipe out the Dawsons. Gail rides to the mesa to warn her family, and Dan, following, engages Bowdre and his men in a fight. Dan pretends to be knocked out, and overhears enough conversation to convince him that Bowdre is responsible for the killings, planning to wipe out the Dawson and get the Mesa for himself.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
