Things get very A Handmaid’s Tale as the darkness of the new strigoi world continues to spread in this week’s The Strain...

4.2 The Blood Tax
Last week, as we began to experience the final season of The Strain, the series introduced a horrific dystopian world and featured Eph and Fet trying to navigate that world. With Eph trying to survive in Philadelphia and Fet trying to find a missile silo in North Dakota, fans learned about this new propaganda-driven strigoi world, but the narrative didn’t really allow us to go inside the inner workings of the new strigoi monarchy. Through Fet and Eph, we got to exist on the fringes of this bloodsucker-run America, but we never really got a ground zero view of what torture and atrocities truly exist within the strigoi states of America.

The Strain hits the reset button as a new strigoi-infested America is introduced...
This review contains spoilers.

4.1 The Worm Turns
When The Strain hit its cliffhanger finish last season, we were left wondering: what’s next? When ‘lil Zach Goodweather pressed the detonator of a nuclear device and blew up New York City, fans were left in a whole new world where The Strain would no longer be about preventing the apocalypse, it would now be about surviving the apocalypse.
And that’s exactly where we pick things up, in a whole new world where the strigoi rule the United States, where humans exist as a feeder class, and where propaganda and desperation are the order of the day as The Strain has gone from a survival horror series to a dystopian survival series and the genre refresh has...

Redford's back and Pollard's got him! Or is it Lauren Hutton? Sidney J. Furie fully earns his shaky reputation with this motorcycle buddy picture. Most of the energy seems to have gone into the deal, not the movie. Great cinematography, but it's for fans that want to look at a shirtless Sundance Kid. I know you're out there. ★★☆☆☆ Whilst sadly stale in its overall delivery, there are still some delights to be found in Allen Hughes' fusion of political thriller with noir pot-boiler, Broken City (2013), which stars Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The New York of the film seethes with seediness, a hive of both corruption and vice. We open to Wahlberg's protag, Billy Taggart, standing trial for the murder of an African American teen. Seven years on, and the ex-cop is now a seedy private eye, taking snaps of unfaithful husbands and wives. The worm turns, and he is invited into the presence of Mayor Hostetler (Crowe), who aided Taggart seven years previously in his trial.
