solid all around
SnoopyStyle15 November 2020
Larry, Curly, and Moe are bumbling bellboys at the Hotel Snazzy-Plaza. A guest has brought Lupe - The Wolf Man which goes crazy when it hears music. It's solid random Stooges fun early on and then they add in a wolf man. "Did you lock the door?" is my favorite low key joke. The elevator is actually pretty good and it allows the short end. This is solid all around.

The Three Stooges Meet the Wolf Man
abbazabakyleman-9883422 October 2019
Another wonderful scare comedy from the creative mind of Del Lord. The Stooges are bell-hops who spend most of the short's run time evading a wolf-man terrorizing the hotel. Plenty of visual gags and a funny script.

Music doesn't sooth this savage beast
bkoganbing14 September 2014
Some of Universal's werewolf films must have inspired Columbia to create this particular short subject for the 3 Stooges. In this one the boys are working as bellhops in a hotel for their room and board and are doing their jobs up to their usual standard.

Some theatrical people have taken some rooms in the hotel and Curly gets assigned to deliver a trunk which Moe puts on his hapless back and Larry makes his task more difficult with his job involving a carpet. What's in the trunk is the premier attraction of their show, a genuine wolfman in a cage. But he's a peaceful wolfman unless someone plays some music. That bit about how music sooths doesn't work with him as he's wired differently than your ordinary garden variety werewolf.

In the end when the boys discover the wolfman they go completely into orbit. This is one of their best shorts.

Very funny three stooges short
m_hebner24 August 2000
This three stooges short I think is one of the best and funniest there is of the three stooges. the funniest parts in this episode is when Curly is taking that big box that has the wolfman in it up to the owners room and when he gets to the floor that he is suppose to go to Larry is behind a door pulling in the rug Curly is walking on and Curly says "Whoa its a long way to that door" then it goes to Larry who is still pulling the rug in and does not know Curly is walking on it and says "This thing must be glued down" I think that is one of the funniest scenes in this short and another part where Curly looks in a broken mirror that the wolfman is standing behind and Curly thinks that wolfman is him. This short is real funny. If your a big fan of the three stooges and haven't seen this one but heard of it I strongly suggest you watch it if it ever comes on AMC.

Exlnt Stooge Short.
maxcellus468 December 2005
The Three Stooges by themselves are already a handful trouble waiting to explode but add them to a hotel full of guests and then a wolf man on top of that? Whew. Funny on all points this one is. Curly sweeping the floor and knocking on the trunk containing the wolf man, unknown to Curly, and the wolf man inside echoing his knocks. Moe comes up from behind and says to Curly "Hey" and Curly thinking it's the trunk says "Shad Up" Then he tells Moe, "It was knocking at me" to which Moe naturally replies "I'll knock at you" Funny stuff all the way through and fast paced without any slow or "dead" spots at all. If you've reached a certain age and still haven't seen this one, be sure to rent it or buy it and watch and laugh as hard as you've never laughed before.

Great Three Stooges short!
Movie Nuttball28 June 2004
The Three Stooges has always been some of the many actors that I have loved. I love just about every one of the shorts that they have made. I love all six of the Stooges (Curly, Shemp, Moe, Larry, Joe, and Curly Joe)! All of the shorts are hilarious and also star many other great actors and actresses which a lot of them was in many of the shorts! In My opinion The Three Stooges is some of the greatest actors ever and is the all time funniest comedy team!

This Three Stooges short is one of My favorites of all! The Stooges are really funny here and Vernon Dent and Christine McIntyre are very good here as well. Duke York was very good as the wolf man and he was funny in some scenes as well. This Three Stooges short is a great one to watch around Halloween time!

Short on plot
planktonrules17 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This Three Stooges short took a while to get moving, as the main plot didn't appear until almost halfway through the film. The boys are bellhops at a nice hotel and during the initial portion of the film they all try to outdo each other when it comes to helping guests. Then, completely out of the blue, one of the guests explains that he's got a wild man (looking much like a wolf-man) in a cage in his room(?) and that the monster is pretty nice as long as he doesn't hear music--then he becomes a savage! Talk about a contrived and ridiculous plot even for a Three Stooges short! Well, quite predictably the monster gets out and hears music and spends the last half of the film chasing the boys around the hotel--leading up to a pretty lame conclusion--especially in regard to special effects.

Overall, this is a time-passer and not among one of the better films of Moe, Curly and Larry.

"I always said your face scares people. Why don't you throw it away?"
slymusic27 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
"Idle Roomers" is a pretty good Three Stooges short starring Moe, Larry, & Curly and directed by the competent Del Lord. The supporting cast in this film includes Vernon Dent, Eddie Laughton, Duke York, and in her very first appearance with the Stooges, the lovely Christine McIntyre. In this film, the Stooges are bellhops at the Hotel Snazzy-Plaza, where virtually anything can happen!

"Idle Roomers" has quite a few highlights, which I shall now pinpoint. Moe, Larry, & Curly go out of their way in showing the pretty Mrs. Leander (McIntyre) to her room; as the bellhop captain, Moe gets the better of Larry (sticking his head through the elevator doors), Curly (twisting his foot), and even Mrs. Leander's husband (Dent) when Moe throws water on him and orders him to leave, thinking he's Curly! When Curly turns the radio on and hears some wonderful big band music, Lupe the Wolf Man (York) goes insane, so he grabs the radio and tosses it at the unobservant Curly, who bends over just in time to let the radio pass over his head and whack Moe's head! As Curly plays a trombone in an attempt to calm Lupe down, we implausibly hear an entire orchestra playing a march! Equally implausible is the ending, in which Lupe takes the Stooges on an elevator ride that continually travels up, and up, and up, and up, and up, until before they know it, they are soaring in the sky! (When I first saw this short as a kid, I was quite disturbed by this ending, but nowadays, I realize that the attempt was simply to be comical, which it certainly is.)

"Idle Roomers" is a very good Stooge film. As bumbling bellhops, the Stooges manage to turn their work into a complete shambles, their escapades with Lupe the Wolf Man notwithstanding. Supporting actor Duke York as Lupe really stands out in this short, and he was quite adept at portraying monster-type villains in various other Stooge shorts as well ("Shivering Sherlocks" [1948] and "Who Done It?" [1949] are examples).

a bit of a clunker
awobyob30 November 2004
Another mid-40's effort with Del Lord trying his hand at writing and not having much success(imo). Most of Del's writing seemed to center on doing "spookhouse' antics, something I don't think the boys did well at all, with this short nearly matching SPOOK LOUDER as one of the worst by the team of Moe, Larry, and Curly.

This short would almost reach "throwaway" status, if not for the very first appearance of a fetching blonde by the name of Christine McIntyre.

To quote the boys: "Yowsers, what a dish."

"Dish, she's a flying saucer".

Very funny Stooges effort
thermal544 November 2004
This was made right before Curly's health started to fail.

There are several very good moments:

*The "flying" radio. *Curly blowing on a trombone, trying to soothe the beast, only to make it angrier. An entire band sound comes out of the horn. *The wolfman hurling the trombone at Curly. The instrument gets bent around Curly's head from the impact. *Curly and Moe hiding from the wolfman, then getting spooked by some little lap dog. *Curly and the wolfman at the broken mirror. *The Stooges and Lupe flying out of the elevator shaft at the movies' climax.

Overall, typical solid effort from Del Lord and the boys.

Seven out of ten.

The Three Stooges Meet the Wolf Man
Michael_Elliott30 August 2016
Idle Roomers (1944)

*** (out of 4)

The Three Stooges are working as bellboys and of course they can't do anything right. After mixing it up with a woman's husband they find even worse news when they stumble across a wolf man while trying to clean their room.

The IMDb lists the working title of this as THE THREE STOOGES MEET THE WOLF MAN and if that's correct then it's really too bad Columbia didn't use it, although I'm going to guess that there might have been an issue with Universal who had just done FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN. With that said, I must admit that I really thought this short started off somewhat slow but things certainly picked up one the hairy one showed up. There were some terrific gags here between the Stooges and the wolf man including some very big moments that you could rank as some of the boys' best. Fans of the Universal movies and the Stooges will certainly be entertained with this one.
