Netflix is taking on close to 250,000 square feet of studio and office space in Toronto, as part of its agreement to invest in Canada’s entertainment industry.
The company announced pacts to lease two studio spaces in Toronto: with Cinespace Studios for around 164,000 square feet of space, including four sound stages, and with Pinewood Toronto Studios, also for four sound stages and adjacent office space comprising a total footprint of approximately 84,580 square feet. The new spaces add to Netflix’s existing physical production footprint in Canada, which includes a lease of British Columbia’s Martini Film Studios and production sites it sets up on a per-production basis.
The Canadian expansion comes after the streamer in 2017 committed to investing $500 million (Canadian) in content production in the country over a five-year period — a goal Netflix says it’s on track to exceed.
According to Netflix, the new Toronto facilities will provide up to 1,850 production jobs per year.

Ray & LizDead Horse Nebula, the first feature of Turkish director Tarik Aktaş, is the kind of film of extremely modest means one finds at a film festival—but it is also proof that such films are precisely why one seeks such films. It opens with a mystery and a dilemma: a dead horse has been found in a field by Hay, a young boy, who calls his elders, who call the owner, who calls the police—all to deal with this bloated carcass. This turns out to be a prologue of a tale that just as evenly balances the unknown and the practical. In the next scene we find a young man (Baris Bilgi) whom we eventually gather is Hay grown up, for Aktaşs’s film moves from scene to scene with gently elusive ellipses. The narrative picks and chooses anecdotes that are once evocative but hardly definitive: the drowning...

Marcus Lemonis, Chairman/CEO of Camping World and Good Sam and the star of CNBC’s The Profit says his entire business career has been about being accessible to people who need his help — even when his live-in girlfriend warns him that it’s going to burn him out. Speaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Lemonis said he gets more than 1,000 email pitches a day, and culls even more from Twitter, but the entrepreneurial spirit is what drives him — in himself and in the struggling and prosepctive business owners with whom he works. Still mourning the sudden closure of Crumbs’ stores? Well the cupcake conglomerate may not be dead after all, despite shuttering all of its four dozen stores earlier this week. An investor group that includes CNBC The Profit star Marcus Lemonis, chairman and chief executive of Camping World and Good Sam Enterprises, and Fischer Enterprises, the Oklahoma energy family-based firm that bought Dippin’ Dots out of bankruptcy in 2012, is in talks to rescue Crumbs, Lemonis' rep confirms to The Hollywood Reporter. So far, online obits haven’t mentioned the cause of death. Lorring, one of the earliest surviving Oscar nominees in the acting categories, was 88. Directed by Irving Rapper, who had also handled one of Bette Davis’ biggest hits, the 1942 sudsy soap opera Now, Voyager, Warners’ The Corn Is Green was a decent if uninspired film version of Emlyn Williams’ semi-autobiographical 1938 hit play about an English schoolteacher,...

This is timely — Wind Dancer, the company of Home Improvement co-creators Matt Williams and David McFadzean, has put in development a TV series, in which an anonymous Good Samaritan leaves cash for strangers throughout Los Angeles. The project is not inspired by the current Hidden Cash frenzy, in which an anonymous millionaire hides money-filled envelopes in La, posting clues about their location on Twitter to amass 355,000 followers since launching the social experiment in San Francisco about a week ago. Instead, Wind Dancer is adapting Good Sam, the debut novel of the company’s president Dete Meserve, which is being published next Tuesday, June 3. In it, a female TV news reporter in Los Angeles is looking for the Good Samaritan (aka Good Sam) who is anonymously leaving $100,000 cash on strangers’ front porches throughout the city (trailer below). Williams and McFadzean executive produce with Meserve and Wind Dancer head of production Judd Payne.

Either Clay Aiken or Arsenio Hall will be crowned the Celebrity Apprentice champion on Sunday night. But it’s not a final grilling by Donald Trump they have to worry about — it’s an InsideTV Podcast grilling from yours truly! The two finalists stopped by to talk all about the big finale and to also look back at the highs and lows of another crazy Celebrity Apprentice season. Can Arsenio find one redeeming quality in Aubrey O’Day? Does Clay regret his treatment of Dayana Mendoza on the show during the Good Sam jingle task? And did Clay have sex with Lisa Lampanelli?...

"I'm the happiest girl in the world today," former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza tells Zap2it -- probably not what viewers might expect to hear the day after Dayana watched herself be fired by Donald Trump on Sunday's (April 30) episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice."
But it's indicative of the Venezuelan beauty's affable nature on the show this season, a personality trait that's come in handy after finding herself in the final boardroom six times before getting fired her seventh go-round.
Dayana was the project manager for her team -- consisting of herself, Clay Aiken and Lisa Lampanelli -- during Sunday's Good Sam jingle task, which they lost. Lisa penned the lyrics to the '60s-style jingle, and Clay provided the vocals, leaving little for Dayana to do aside from signage and advising her teammates -- something Clay and Lisa did not take kindly to. Both eventually lashed out at Dayana...

Seven proved to be an unlucky number for former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza on Sunday's (April 29) episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice." After six previous visits to the final boardroom, Dayana finally heard Donald Trump's famous last words and was fired following Team Forte's loss in the Good Sam jingle task.
"It was like the blind leading the seeing," teammate Clay Aiken says during the task, referring to Dayana's misguided project management of the team.
Forte goes with a '60s theme for their jingle with Clay on vocals and Lisa Lampanelli writing most of the lyrics, while Aubrey O'Day is the self-designated mastermind behind Team Unanimous' cheerleader-themed jingle -- even though Arsenio Hall is project manager. Teresa Giudice meanwhile is delegated to acting as her team's own personal cheerleader, trying to keep the peace between Aubrey and Arsenio.

Thanks to her muse, Dayana Mendoza, she rocked harder than ever. Get ready to rage to your faces off because these celebrities put on quite a show tonight. Celebrity Apprentice 2012 fired Dayana Mendoza in episode 11 tonight. Tonight's episode kicked off with Aubrey tooting her own horn, claiming she's the best creative person on the show. Then Dayana realized she really needed to watch her back, because she felt like people thought she should've went home over Penn. Then Aubrey gave her charity the $40,000 she won in the last task. Next,Trump gave the team their new task. They had to write a 90-second jingle for Good Sam's Roadside Assistance program, and perform it. They were judged on the actual jingle, brand messaging, and performance. Dayana took over project manager duties for team Forte, and Arsenio took project manager for Unanimous. The winning task manager won $45,000 for their charity. Arsenio and Aubrey began immediately clashing heads when Aubrey kept trying to shoot out ideas,so things did not look good at this point. Later on,Arsenio gave Aubrey...

Not all outdoorsy types are down with the Trump boys' hunting hobby. Camping World, one of the show's sponsors this season, has vowed not to work with Celebrity Apprentice in the future following the release earlier this week of photos of Donald Trump Jr. and younger brother Eric posing with a dead elephant, a crocodile and other animals they killed while on safari in Zimbabwe last year. But the Rv-supply company, which has not advertised on NBC during the show but has spent money as an affiliated sponsor along with Good Sam Roadside Assistance and will be featured on an upcoming episode, says this isn't a judgment on hunting or people who hunt. So, why is Camping World "not thrilled"...

As the new Korean thriller I Saw the Devil opens, a young woman sits in her car by a snowy roadside in the proverbial middle of nowhere, waiting on assistance to deal with a flat tire. She passes the time by chatting with her husband-to-be, a special agent on security detail at a fancy hotel who ducks into the bathroom to sing a syrupy love song over his cell phone. The cross-cutting heightens the tone of self-conscious gooey-ness—emphasizing the impossible cuteness of the moment and the model-pretty actors—even as the inevitable looms. Everyone knows what happens when attractive female motorists get stranded in the middle of the night in movies called I Saw the Devil (or in the cold open of any episode of any CSI or Law and Order franchise). Momentarily, a yellow short-bus pulls up and a spooky, if seemingly kindly fellow emerges.
