In one of the trailers for the upcoming “Just Cause 4” developed by Avalanche Studios, longtime series protagonist Rico Rodriguez steps behind the wheel of a roaring American muscle car, dipping through trenches, mud splattering all over the classic vehicle. Just as he crests the top of a hill, he spies the immense pillar of a tornado towering over the grasslands, a corona of debris twirling around it. Rico guns the engine and heads for the heart of the storm, the car taking flight towards the heavens just as the game’s logo slams dramatically into view.
As the image fades, I ask the producer running the demo why exactly Rico would decide to drive his muscle car headlong into a tornado. He just laughs. “Why not? Isn’t that what you would do?”
Such a response reflects the deeply compelling core of the “Just Cause” experience: pure, unadulterated chaos,. Over its decade-plus run,...

Jane Fonda will receive this year’s Lumière Award at the 10th Lumière Festival in Lyon, France.
Describing the Oscar-winning actress, festival director Thierry Fremaux said Fonda is “a feminist, activist, and she remains a star.”
The festival said it was honoring Fonda for an “acting career that has led her from Sidney Pollack to Arthur Penn, from René Clément to Roger Vadim; for her willingness to embody fierce independence from a young age …” It also stressed the actress’ work as “a committed, life-long activist, ahead of her time as a vanguard of ideals,” calling her a “symbol of struggles for freedom, anti-racism and peace” as well as “an international star, an icon spanning several decades of audiences.”
“I am honored to be invited to the Lumière Festival in Lyon,” Fonda said, adding that she was “over the moon” upon hearing the news that she would receive the award.

The popular Square Enix video game franchise Just Cause is getting a big screen adaptation, and it just took a huge step forward. Jason Momoa (Aquaman) is set to star in the film, which will be directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas). This is some solid talent for the film, but it also got itself a great screenwriter. The script will be written by John Collee, who wrote the fantastic Russell Crowe film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. If anything, we know that there's a good chance the script will be solid.
Peyton and Momoa previously worked together on the Netflix's series Frontier. It's actually pretty good, and it's nice that they are coming together to work on bringing Just Cause to life as a feature film.
The story basically centers around a character named Rico Rodriguez (Momoa), who's an operative for an organization known as the Agency.

Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in and produce a crime thriller called The Black Hand, which is based on a book of the same name written by Stephan Talty. The film is based on a true story and is set up at Paramount Pictures. This sounds like an awesome story that would make for a great film.
The story is set in 1903, and DiCaprio will take on the lead role of Joe Petrosino, "a NYPD cop who goes after the ruthless gang (with the calling card black hand) that migrated from Italy to America. The thugs kidnapped people and then extorted money from their families. They were loathed by law-abiding Italian families who were frightened, but nevertheless helped Petrosino behind the scenes."
This seems like it's a great role for DiCaprio to take on, and this wouldn't be the first time he's played a law enforcement officer in a movie.

According to Deadline, Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Stephan Talty’s book The Black Hand. The story is set in the early 1900s, with the Italian Mafia first making headway in the United States by kidnapping people and leaving ominous ransom notes for their families attributed to “the Black Hand.”
DiCaprio will play NYPD officer Joe Petrosino, a man apparently nicknamed “the Italian Sherlock Holmes,” as he works to expose the dirty dealings of the mob. Unfortunately, at the risk of spoiling history, Petrosino does eventually get killed by so-called Black Hand thugs. So that makes this a crime drama, a period piece, and a thriller where the main character will probably die at the end, all of which are basically DiCaprio’s favorite things to have in a movie.
As Deadline also points out, Talty is the ghostwriter behind A Captain’s...

The Black Hand is set to be the new Leonardo DiCaprio project...
Leonardo Dicapio, who played a street tough in Martin Scorsese’s early New York City crime drama Gangs Of New York, will again clean up those city streets in the upcoming The Black Hand. DiCaprio will produce and star in an adaptation of the book by Stephan Talty for Paramount.
The Black Hand: The Epic War Between A Brilliant Detective And The Deadliest Secret Society In American History will be published in April. The story is set in New York City in crime wave of the summer of 1903. A group of new immigrant criminals was preying on lower Manhattan and leaving a calling card with the figure of a Black Hand at crime scenes. DiCaprio will play Detective Joseph Petrosino, who was called 'Italian Sherlock Holmes', who took the fight against crime from New York to Sicily.

The third and final part of Just Cause 3‘s Air, Land and Sea Dlc combo launches tomorrow on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Square Enix and Avalanche Studios have confirmed. The August 11 date is only applicable to season pass holders however, with everyone else required to wait until August 18 to take their adventures to the open water.
So, what can fans of Avalanche’s sandbox playground expect with the Bavarium Sea Heist? Well, like Sky Fortress and Mech Land Assault before it, Sea Heist introduces some brand new, very destructive toys for you to play around with, this time coming in the form of the ‘Loochador’ rocket boat and the ‘Eden Spark’ gun, which, as the name suggests, “unleashes devastating bolts of lightning,” so says Avalanche.

Avalanche Studios and Square Enix have posted the trailer for "Just Cause 3: Mech Land Assault," the upcoming second batch of the "Land, Air, and Sea" expansion pack Dlc for its open world action title "Just Cause 3".
In this one Rico Rodriguez goes to the new island of Lacrima, home to an abandoned research base and prison camp run by the mysterious Black Hand. Defended by huge powerful Mechs, Rico uses a Bavarium Power Core rifle to disable them and then take control of their powerful cannons and Grip Gravity Guns.
This expansion, which follows in the wake of the first "Sky Fortress," will be released on June 10th as a separate purchase, but is already available now for season pass holders. The third batch, the 'Sea' part of the title, has yet to be announced.

Available to Season Pass owners from today, June 3, Square Enix has unleashed the riotous first trailer for Mech Land Assault, Just Cause 3‘s second of three mainline expansion packs.
Priced at $11.99 (€11.99/£9.49), the Dlc will ship Rico Rodriguez off to the idyllic island of Lacrima, where he hopes to expose the Black Hand and their abandoned eDEN research base. What our gun-toting adrenaline junkie doesn’t realize, though, is that the facility houses giant mechs, and today’s explosive snippet teases some of their gravity-defying abilities.
Like Metal Gear Solid on steroids, Rico is able to attract and hurl objects with the Gravitational Remote Influence Projector, resulting in some truly jaw-dropping fireworks.
Here’s an overview of Mech Land Assault:
Pilot two types of powerful Mech and drive them anywhere in Medici. Unleash the Mech’s Gravitational Remote Influence Projector or “Grip” to attract and hurl objects at your enemies. Jump...

Air, Land and Sea. That’s the title of Just Cause 3‘s appropriately bonkers expansion pass, and after Square Enix and Avalanche caused chaos in the air with Sky Fortress earlier this year, we now have word of the second mainline installment for the action sequel.
Entitled Mech Land Assault, the Dlc will be priced at $11.99 (€11.99/£9.49) as a standalone purchase – the expansion pass, meanwhile, is available for $24.99/€24.99/£19.99 – and is set to take place on the all-new and beautiful island of Lacrima.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, though, after Rico uncovers a mysterious and abandoned research facility housing giant mechs. Ruling over that small army of bipedal machines is the Black Hand, and in the screenshots above, you can get a glimpse of the explosive action that awaits.

It all started with Alan Moore naturally enough, the comic book equivalent of a cross between Rick Rubin and J.D. Salinger. Somehow an eight page, pseudo-canonical storyline that not only gave the most perfect explanation for the eventual fall of Abin Sur, but also the most grisly prophecy in all of comics, became the cornerstone for Geoff Johns’ immaculate run on Green Lantern. Along with Grant Morrison’s Batman, Geoff Johns’ work on Green Lantern was instrumental in restructuring the Dcu post Infinite Crisis. While both runs are seminal and offer the definitive version of each character, what distinguishes Johns’ run on Green Lantern is that he not only brought back Hal Jordan after a decade long absence, he also made the title into one of DC’s heavy hitters.

With the groundwork already laid after the release of a hefty patch earlier this week, developer Monolith Productions is gearing up for the launch of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor‘s forthcoming piece of Dlc, The Bright Lord.
In Talion’s steed, the add-on will focus on Celebrimbor, who is battling Sauron for control of that all-important One Ring. Speaking to Polygon, Design Director Michael de Plater provided a brief overview of the new addition and how he differs from Shadow of Mordor‘s core protagonist.
Celebrimbor is more powerful, more agile, but also more fragile – more of a glass cannon. The enemies are also much more numerous and powerful. It’s definitely a challenge. In terms of specific skills and playstyle, it’s balanced so that you really need to use your domination skills, the One Ring, and your improved archery skills to succeed.

I was first attracted to Das Geheimschloss, a.k.a. Miss Clever Versus the Black Hand, because of an intriguing coincidence concerning its year of production. It's the third episode in a serial chronicling the exploits of intrepid lady detective Miss Clever. Not much is known about the show, even the director being anonymous. But the villains share their name, The Black Hand, with the Serbian nationalist group whose assassination of Duke Franz Fedinand of Austro-Hungary that same year triggered the First World War.
The movie itself is not overtly political. Miss Clever, when first encountered, seems quite bohemian, with her exotic dress and elephant sculptures, but this is probably to contrast with the first of many disguises she slips into, as a telephone operator at a bank whose chairman has received a threatening letter. Today we might wish the criminals every success in their enterprise, but in 1914 a more...

Two Days, One Night (Deux Jours, Une Nuit) by the Dardennes Brothers shows the fight of a working class young woman to hold on to her financially precarious and hard-won section of the workforce. The sixteen workers in her section are promised a bonus if they vote to oust her and she has two days and one night to convince them to forgo their bonus in order to allow her to keep her job. The formulaic premise is a bit simple, even gimmicky, but Marion Cotillard’s creation of this frail woman, being beaten down by the system and coming out stronger for having persevered in spite of the system is so accomplished, and the true-to-life reasons her colleagues give her for their vote shines upon humanity in a way that satisfies our own need to keep up the good fight for our independence even when exhausted by the strain of life itself. The simplicity of the message, “workers of the world, unite” is, as it always is in the Dardenne Brothers’ films, illuminating to the spirit.

It’s sad that many gamers find it surprising when an established franchise takes a quality step into the world of video games, especially since many of these series are full of interactive potential. Luckily, J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series has had many successful releases, including both movie tie-ins and original works that delve deeper into the rich mythology that millions of fans love.
Since Monolith Productions took over work on the intellectual property’s video game license, fans have been anticipating their in-development project, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, which looks to bring a grittier perspective to the archetypal fantasy landscape. As if the talent behind this entry’s plot wasn’t enough to raise some eyebrows (the story is being written by Christian Cantamessa, the mind behind Red Dead Redemption‘s epic tale), Monolith and Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Interactive have released an all new trailer for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, but instead of focusing on the gameplay, this trailer is all about setting the tone, and establishing the story that gamers will be playing through. Honestly, it's the most interesting this game has looked so far. On top of that, they've also revealed the voice cast you'll be hearing. Come inside to check it out and learn more!
Call me crazy, but for me, the most exciting things about video games are the stories. That's why I gravitate towards more story-focused games and never got into the Fps/multi-player genres. Story is what drives me to keep playing through, and as such, today's newest trailer has me more interested in Shadow of Mordor than before:
Lots of story going on here, and some interesting concepts that haven't really been explored in the Lord of the Rings license.

A new trailer posted to the Official PlayStation Blog has shed some light on the storyline behind the upcoming Killzone: Shadow Fall.
Action in Killzone: Shadow Fall takes place on the planet Vekta, where rival Helghast and Vektan factions are forced to live side by side. As tensions rise between the two groups, Helghast leader Chancellor Visari and Vektan Security Agency Director Sinclair are both trying to better their people at the expense of the other.
Besides the Helghast and Vektan, there are other groups that are also plotting to achieve their desired results. These include the Black Hand, who wish to force a civil war between the two factions, and Echo, who are doing all they can do in order to stop the Black Hand. Protagonist Shadow Marshal Lucas Kellan must do whatever it takes to keep all of these groups in line and hopefully save Vekta from destroying itself.

DC Comics gratuitous “Villains Month” series of one-shots continues this week with Black Hand #1. Black Hand was elevated to a more significant role by Green Lantern-wunderkind Geoff Johns, and now gets the spotlight in his own issue.
Following the events of the “Wrath of the First Lantern” crossover, Black Hand was killed (again.) Being the master of death however, it should be no surprise that William Hand is back once more. While the world is being torn apart by the Crime Syndicate from the events of Forever Evil, some vestiges of law enforcement are still trying to maintain order. After Black Hand inadvertently attacks some police officers, he is thrown in jail. Gradually he recalls what he is capable of and escapes his prison.

Exclusive: Matthew Michael Carnahan has added Linda Emond and Ray Liotta to a Violent Talent cast that includes Garrett Hedlund, Margot Robbie, Toby Kebbell and Riz Ahmed. Emond and Liotta will play the parents of Hedlund’s character, who teams with his two oldest friends Angel and Quan (Kebbell and Ahmed) to build a criminal empire in a contemporary Chicago where he feels crime might be the most honest job around. Emond’s the twice-Tony nominated actress who’ll next be seen in Terrence Malick’s Project V, while Liotta next stars in Stretch and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Tracy Falco is producing Violent Talent. The inspiration for the film was Carnahan’s fixation with Liotta’s breakout film Goodfellas, and a gap that Francis Coppola left in Don Corleone’s formative years in the first two Godfather films. “The story I’m trying to tell is...

Every year at Comic Con, thousands of collectors line up to call dibs on the latest Sdcc exclusives from Mattel, Hasbro and DC Comics.
DC has just released their roster of toys that will attract collectors and Ebay junkies, who will drag their kids along to cheat their way through merchandise caps. The lineup features a healthy mix of toys adapted from the comics, the Batman Arkham City video game and DC’s Saturday morning comedy toons.
Hard core collectors will want to check out the DC Comics’ Superheroes of Green Lantern 4-pack. Ever since the Sinestro Corps war, Green Lantern has been a mainstay in DC’s Sdcc exclusives. I still wish I got my Red Lantern Hal Jordan, but that line was just too long a few years back. Robert Lynders sculpted the the Green Lantern Sinestro and Dex-Starr figures, while Phil Ramirez sculpted the Arkillo and Black Hand figures.

The students of the rough and violent neighborhood, Estrella del Sur, are directionless and hopeless. The film – written, directed, and produced by Gabriel González Rodríguez – focuses on the lives of these students as they attend the local high school. While high school isn’t always a pleasant place, these teenagers live in simultaneous fear of their fellow classmates as well as the Black Hand, a mafia-esque group whose goal is to purge the neighborhood of miscreants. A new literature teacher (Julieth Restrepo) comes to the school with the hope of giving the students some sense of purpose and direction. It quickly becomes apparent that neither she nor the school’s principal have any real authority.

All the dust has settled on DC’s New 52 re-launch, and they are releasing their second volumes of graphic novels. Geoff Johns, looking to capitalize on his successful run with the first volume, takes us even deeper into the Green Lantern mythos by exploring the compassionate Indigo Tribe. Keeping the team of Hal Jordan and Sinestro intact, Johns takes you on a wild adventure that ultimately culminates with a show down between our heroes and Black Hand, as well as teases the reveal of the First Lantern. Johns has really found himself a niche when it comes to writing Green Lantern. The stories that he is able to tell with these particular sets of characters rival that of some of the greatest runs in comic history. That continues here in the in this hardback collection of Green Lantern issues 7-12 along with Green Lantern Annual #1. Johns looks to give us...

Michael Jai White has joked in the past that the sequel to Black Dynamite will be "blacker and dynamitier." But we shouldn't take that to mean it'll necessarily chronicle the further adventures of the titular CIA 'Nam vet however. According to White, it's likely that the next film will be a Western.Black Dynamite, if you're unlucky enough not to have caught it so far, is a blaxploitation spoof in which Bd, on the trail of his brother's killer, foils a dastardly plot involving Anaconda malt liquor, the kung-fu island of Fiendish Dr Wu, and Nixon's White House. Arsenio Hall co-starred as Tasty Freeze, with Bokeem Woodbine as Black Hand Jack and Tommy Davidson as Cream Corn. If you want further adventures from those characters, there's an animated spin-off, but next?"In the inception of Black Dynamite, there were a few types of ideas we were going to do," White tells CraveOnline.

I’ve always had this theory that whenever there’s some big hit movie everyone is rushing to see, there was always some film (or films) made years before with the same premise, more or less, that was totally overlooked or completely forgotten.
That idea occurred to me again today when I was watching a film I’ve seen a few times before, the 1950 MGM thriller, Black Hand, with Gene Kelly, on Turner Classics Movies channel. The film is set in New York slums during the early 1900’s, and is about a guy out for revenge against the Mafia who killed his father years earlier. Thematically and visually it bears a striking similarity to the early, turn of the century New York scenes involving a young Don Corleone, and the beginnings of the Mafia, in the Godfather II, and I suspect Francis Ford Coppola might have had Black Hand on...
