Based on a radio serial ,"Le Curé De Village" looks like the old Marcel Pagnol movies from the thirties :the depiction of a rural community : the Québec accent replacing the Provençal one,and the horseshoes game replacing the Petanque (type of bowls). The movie really takes off in its second part when Juliette 's father reappears.

This is full of finer feelings. The priest is the village's shrink ,so to speak. His influence causes the prodigal dad's self-sacrifice and reveals to the soon-to-be -mother-in -law how selfish and over possessive she is.He plays the same role as the military chaplain in "Tit Coq" (1945),although the latter has worn much better.

The movie features two folk songs ("Gentil Coquelicot" and "A La Volette" ) which used to be very popular in France half a century go,but are a little forgotten here now.
