The first of the month is typically when the variety of streaming services on offer bolster their respective libraries with a mixture of original and pre-existing content, freshening things up for subscribers in the process. January 1st also happens to be the first day of 2021, though, so people might be expecting a little more than just a handful of new additions, and HBO Max are stepping up to the plate in a big way.
Of course, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to entice millions to sign up for Warner Bros.’ platform, especially when the entire slate of theatrical releases are also heading to the streaming site on the same day that they hit the big screen. And keen to capitalize on the inevitable influx of new customers, HBO Max is adding a massive amount of film and television titles on January 1st, with the onslaught set to continue over the next 30 days.

Salman Rushdie is to visit India on a promotional tour for Midnight's Children. Based on Rushdie's 600-page Booker Prize-winning novel, Deepa Mehta's film spans 60 years of India's history after independence. Speaking to Ians, Rushdie - who had a fatwā issued against him in 1989 by Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in connection with his controversial book the Satanic Verses - said: "It's a great feeling to be visiting Landmark and talking about my book Midnight's Children, which has been made into a movie by my friend Deepa Mehta." The celebrated author, who provided the narration to the film, was unable to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival in January 2012 following fear of protests over The Satanic Verses, (more)...

After last Sunday night's mind-blowing episode of "The Walking Dead," we sat in on a conference call with Sarah Wayne Callies and IronE Singleton, who talked about the fate of their characters and lots more. If you somehow haven't seen the episode yet, beware of major spoilers inside!
Sarah, can you talk about how you got to such an intense level of emotion as an actress in Sunday's episode and also about the bond you have with Chandler (Riggs) as your son in the show. How was that to work through?
Sarah Wayne Callies: Lori's death is very unique among the ones we've had on "The Walking Dead" because it's one that she's chosen. The other one that comes close is Jim deciding to leave us by the side of road in Episode 105, although he's already been bitten at that point. So it's an interesting tone because it's not...

Doris Day is Turner Classic Movies' Star of the Month of April 2012. TCM's Doris Day homage begins this evening with eight movies released at the start of Day's career at Warner Bros. In addition to Day's presence, what those movies have in common is the following: little plot, lots of music, and Old Hollywood's fluff-producing machinery at work. If that's your thing, don't miss them! Of those, the better one is probably Roy Del Ruth's On Moonlight Bay (1951, photo). Though nothing at all like Del Ruth's crackling Warner Bros. movies of the early '30s — e.g., The Maltese Falcon, Beauty and the Boss, Blessed Event — this musical comedy set in a small American town prior to World War I offers some genuine nostalgia, great songs, and charming performances, including those of the two good-looking leads, Day and Gordon MacRae. On Moonlight Bay was popular enough to merit a sequel,...

Marcus, who appeared in a Get in the Game segment on "RapFix Live" back in September, is getting ready to drop his Space Jams 2 mixtape. While Manchild is still a relative newcomer, he has been learning lessons from a couple of Og's — Slim Thug and Paul Wall — for quite some time now.

Darth Maul is making a comeback on the Clone Wars TV show, and while fans have known that for a while, Lucasfilm has so far been keeping him underwraps. Well, worry about that no more with this amazing trailer that showcases Darth Maul's return to the Star Wars universe.
I've made no secret about being a Star Wars fanboy on this site, but what you may not know is that I'm particularly fascinated by the character of Darth Maul. A very good chunk of my collection is dedicated to the character, and I even made the guy went sent to Comic Con pick up some Darth Maul centric exclusives while he was there. Despite all the critical and commercial acclaim Drake's Take Care has rightly earned, the Toronto Mc has remained relatively quiet when promoting the album. Relative in the sense that Thank Me Later's release was accompanied by the hoopla of in-store signings and a documentary.
That's not the only way the two projects differ. Where Tml featured a number of A-list hitmakers, from Kanye West to Swizz Beatz, the biggest name in Drake's sophomore effort's production credits is Just Blaze. The album certainly doesn't suffer from that lack of notoriety, however. In fact, it sounds more focused with the lesser-known T-Minus, and Drake's right-hand man Noah "40" Shebib stealing the show. Their efforts helped to make it more Drake's album — however introspective, weird and altogether refreshing that might be.

Recently, Sony Pictures and Escape Artist have come together and put out some decent films. The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds to name a few. Today it was announced, over on comingsoon, that the two companies are going to continue to make films together.
One of the films in the works between the two is a movie version of the 1980’s TV show The Equalizer. The film will star Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, a former spy turned private detective. I remember my parents watching this show when I was younger, and after reading about it, I think I am going to have to check it out myself. Here is a brief synopsis, from IMDb, of the show to give you an idea of what we can expect:
Robert McCall is a tough-as-nails, no-bs private eye who went into business for himself after leaving the shadowy agency he once worked for.

Amy Poehler has said that Parks and Recreation crawled its way on top. The NBC sitcom went from a shaky start in 2008 to garnering Emmy recognitions and increased ratings. When Hemispheres Magazine praised the show for its fourth season, the 40-year-old comedic actress responded: "Thank you for saying that. Now that the first season of WeTV's "Braxton Family Values" has wrapped up, Tamar Braxton (Toni's little sis) has made quite a name for herself... and she didn't need any actual talent to do it. "I waited my whole entire life to have a career and to be noticed and accepted as Tamar," she tells Bet. "I can't lie and say it doesn't feel good for people to accept who you really are. Seven years ago, Christopher Nolan considered Henry Cavill for the title role in the Batman reboot before deciding he was too young, while Twilight author Stephanie Meyer wanted him to play vampire Edward, but he was considered too old.
On top of that, he was almost cast as the new James Bond, losing out to Daniel Craig, and was set to star in a Superman film directed by McG before the project was cancelled.
But finally Cavill is on the cusp of global fame. Immortals hits the big screen tomorrow (November 11), and he was given a second chance at Superman with Zack Snyder's reboot Man of Steel, which he's shooting now for release in June 2013.
Cavill was announced earlier this year as the next man to don the red cape - and the first non-American to do so. He's well aware of the privilege and the pressure.
"It's the opportunity of a lifetime.

MTV got a chance to talk with Robert Kirkman about we can expect from AMC's 'The Walking Dead' season 2. If you haven't watched the first season yet, consider this your Spoiler Warning!
MTV News: When I spoke to you a while back, before "The Walking Dead" premiered, you said that doing the television series gave you a chance to go back and improve on some of the stories you told in the early issues. Now that the first season is behind us, what were some of the story points that benefited the most from the adaptation process? Robert Kirkman: First off, let me say that the comic is great. But there's all kinds of extra emotional stuff they added in the show. The moment between Andrea and Amy, when she's turning into a zombie and Andrea has to shoot her — that's very quick in the comic book.
