Emil Sitka almost ruined his reputation as a "1-take wonder" when he chased the Stooges down the street. Director Edward Bernds told him to ad-lib angry dialogue, and on the first take, Emil delivered a barrage of obscenities. The scene was re-shot after cast and crew stopped laughing.
The reel where Shemp practices his dentistry was actually filmed for Merry Mavericks (1951) but was too long for inclusion as it ran, and too funny to edit or throw out. Merry Mavericks (1951) had come in ahead of time and somewhat under budget, so producer Hugh McCollum persuaded Columbia to allow him two days extra to film additional material to round it out, and used the dental school sequence to set up this short.
Released October 4, 1951, one day before (Stooge) Larry Fine's 49th birthday (born 10-05-1902).
Columbia production reel #4162.
