Despite the film's broad appeal, it has not (as of 2020) been released on home video or streaming. It was last broadcast on U.S. television in the 1970s.
The Broadway production opened at the St. James Theater on October 11, 1948 and ran for 792 performances. Ray Bolger ,Allyn Ann McLerie and Horace Cooper reprised their roles in the movie version.

Ray Bolger won Broadway's 1949 Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical) for "Where's Charley?", a part he re-created in the film version.
