Nibbles is now Jerry's nephew, seen in chapter 11 of the book. Originally he was just a mouse from an orphanage.
The title is a play on "Life with Father," a popular autobiography of essayist Clarence Day. It was adapted for stage and screen, and was also used as the title of a M*A*S*H TV episode.
The usual attention to detail in shorts of this time was perfect, especially the sumptuous depiction of a Thanksgiving dinner. Cartoon shorts were still being shown in the cinema so appealed to an older, more sophisticated audience rather than Saturday morning kid shows.
