Peitsalo and Palo team up
Petey-1026 October 2011
On a rainy day Vuokko Takala, a young woman finds herself sharing the same place on an island with a man. This man is believed to be Rompan Eetu, a smuggler. But he's actually Captain Kalervo Karhi. But she doesn't know that. She promises to help him get to Helsinki, where he's ought to give himself in.And there is also a smuggler league there. An adventure of her lifetime is about to begin.Se Alkoi Sateessa (1953) is directed by Eddie Stenberg and Thure Bahne. It's written by Elsa Soini, based on her own play.Eila Peitsalo is really cute as Vuokko.Tauno Palo is most charismatic as Karhi.Other actors do also good work.Kaarlo Halttunen plays the girl's uncle, a rural police chief.Eino Kaipainen is Chief Constable.Esa Pakarinen does something he rarely did and acts a crook.Matti Oravisto plays an actor.Kalevi Kahra plays a private.Pentti Irjala is a policeman.Pentti Viljanen plays Farmer of Mattila. For some reason this movie has the reputation of being one of the worst Finnish movies ever made. That is very hard to understand.I myself found it very entertaining. There are some terrific moments there.I especially enjoyed when Tauno and Eila sing a little bit from Rosvo Roope, a song and movie made famous by Palo.In that scene she sews the button of his shirt.A funny scene is where those two steal the food of a policeman, hidden behind scarecrows. The whole relationship portrayed between those two is great to watch. The dislike and suspicion turns into love. This movie has just right amount of suspense, comedy and romance.
