Sex & Nudity
-
- A little teenager is manipulated into thinking she is in love with an older man.
- A woman dances sexually in a revealing outfit for a show.
- On their wedding night, a wife indicates consummation, but the husband lashes out, saying a wife's body should be used for motherhood and not for men's lust.
Violence & Gore
-
- Corporal punishment against a boy.
- With the murders and the frightening scenes, the film would likely be PG-13. Not meant for small children.
- A man slaps a woman abusively on the face.
- There is a scene were we see the legs of dead body (partially covered by a door). It's not graphic though.
Profanity
-
- 1 use of hell (the literal place), and a use of whore. The use of whore is used against the madam and young children.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Nothing significant. A character is shown very briefly taking a sip. A man in crisis drinks himself into a stupor, falls on the floor and cannot be woken.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- A ten year old boy gets hit for running away from getting his hair roughly washed. A woman chases him behind a bush and starts hitting him hard. He is not seen but many swats are heard.
- Some scenes may be scary for young children. The entire atmosphere is often nightmarish, depicting a murderer pursuing a woman and her children to obtain money.
- A man threatens to slice a child's neck.
Spoilers
Violence & Gore
- At the end on the movie, Harry Powell is shot in the shoulder. The scene is creepy and we later see the wound on his jacket.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- One of the most upsetting scenes shows the children's mother dead in a car underwater.
