According to a contemporary article in The Hollywood Reporter, ordnancemen Royal Lowe, and Louis Farkas were killed, and truck driver Paul Zook was seriously injured after wrapping up location shooting near Colorado Springs when explosives being loaded onto a truck detonated.
The jet aircraft in the film are Lockheed P-80 Shooting Stars, flown by the 120th Fighter Squadron of the Colorado Air National Guard.
Lt. Flagler carries a M3 sub-machine gun, nicknamed the "grease gun" because of its resemblance to the mechanic's tool. It fired the same .45 caliber ammo as the Thompson ("Tommy") sub-machine gun, but was lighter and a lot less expensive and easier to maintain.

The tank in the film, named "Phyllis II", is a M4A1 (76)W Sherman. It is a M4 with a 76mm gun and wider tracks. In Fury (2014), the same model tank is named "Old Phyllis".
