  [an invisible force rips down the trees; Morbius closes the steel shutters over the windows] 

  Dr. Morbius : I feel sorry for you, young man.

  Commander Adams : Feel sorry for your daughter, Morbius.

  Altaira Morbius : It's listening.

  [the monster pounds on the steel shielding, denting it] 

  Dr. Morbius : Alta, go into my study.

  Commander Adams : You still refuse to face the truth.

  Dr. Morbius : What truth?

  Commander Adams : Morbius, that thing out there - it's *you*.

  Dr. Morbius : You're insane. How else would you have led it here, where Alta must see you torn to pieces?

  Commander Adams : You still think she's immune? She's joined herself to me, body and soul!

  Altaira Morbius : Yes, and whatever comes, forever.

  Dr. Morbius : Say it's a lie. Shout, let it hear you out there! Tell it you don't love this man!

  Altaira Morbius : Not even if I could.

  [the steel shielding begins to break] 

  Dr. Morbius : Stop it, Robby! Don't let it in! Kill it, Robby!

  [Robby shorts out] 

  Commander Adams : It's no use. He knows it's your other self.

  [steel shielding breaks; they run] 

• Altaira Morbius : Robby, I must have a new dress, right away.

• Robby the Robot : [approaches from vehicle, stops and bows]  Welcome to Altair IV, Gentlemen. I am to transport you to the residence. If you do not speak English I am at your disposal with 187 other languages along with their various dialects and sub-tongues.

  Commander Adams : Colloquial English will do fine, thank you.

  Cook : Look, never mind the sir, mister, but I'm a stranger on this so called planet and I was just wondering if, well if you could tell me where I could... a guy could get ahold of the real stuff?

  Cook : Just for cooking purposes you understand! I take a big pride in my duties.

  Robby the Robot : Pardon me, sir. "Stuff?"

  Cook : [Pulls out bottle of bourbon]  Oh. Just about one jolt left. Oh, Genuine Ancient Rocket Bourbon. See here?

  [Robby takes the bottle and empties it into his analyzer slot] 

  Cook : Hey! Why you low level contraption, I oughta take a can opener to you!

  Robby the Robot : Quiet please, I am analyzing.

  [makes a belching sound] 

  Robby the Robot : Yes, relatively simple alcohol molecules with traces of fusel oil... Would 60 gallons be sufficient?

  Cook : Gallons? Mister, I been from here to there in this galaxy and I just want you to know you're the most understanding soul I ever met up with.

  [Slaps Robby's steel back] 

  Cook : OW!

• Robby the Robot : 480 pints, as you requested. Total, 60 gallons.

  Cook : Genuine Kansas City bourbon!

  [Takes a swig and coughs twice] 

  Cook : And it's smooth, too. Robby, I ain't never gonna forget this. Any time you're hard up for a couple of gallons of lube oil, you just let me know.

• Robby the Robot : For your convenience I am programmed to respond to the name Robby.

• Robby the Robot : [regarding the lead shielding he is carrying]  The whole thing hardly comes to ten tons.

• Robby the Robot : Passengers will please fasten their seatbelts.

  Lt. 'Doc' Ostrow : Looks after us like a mother.

• Robby the Robot : [blocking the doorway]  I am monitored to admit no one at this hour.

  Lt. 'Doc' Ostrow : That sounded final.

  Commander Adams : Maybe if we reason with him.

  [they draw their weapons] 

  Robby the Robot : My beams are focused on your blasters, gentlemen.

  [they attempt to fire but Robby disables the blasters] 

  Commander Adams : Doesn't he have a built-in rule against wringing our little necks for us?

  Robby the Robot : That is true, sir. Yet, I am monitored to admit no one.

  [Altaira appears behind him] 

  Altaira Morbius : Robby! Robby, let them in.

  Commander Adams : Altaira, this is your father's order, now, get out of the way!

  Altaira Morbius : Be quiet. Robby, emergency cancellation Archimedes.

  [Robby moves off; Cmdr Adams and Altaira embrace] 

  Altaira Morbius : Why are you here?

  Commander Adams : We were attacked. Three more men dead, including Jerry Farmen.
