Charles Collingwood: Narrator

Quotes

  • Narrator : [opening narration]  This is the Isle of Pines. Columbus discovered it on his second voyage to the Indies. The Spaniards colonised it. When Cuba won her freedom, it came into her possession. This is the southern coast of the island and these are its people. They are the Caymaneros. Their livelihood depends on their knowledge of the sea and the life beneath it. Though they are Cuban, they speak English - the language of their ancestors who migrated here from the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. In early 1943, with action in shark-infested waters increasing, scientists from the United States Naval Research Laboratory came here to work. The project was called "Operation Shark Chaser". To them, as well as to the officers and men of the United States Navy, this film is dedicated.
