Submitted to the British Board of Film Censors as Bop Girl Goes Calypso and passed with a "U" certificate on 12 September 1957. United Artists decided to shorten the British release title to Bop Girl and first screened it on 23 September 1957 at the UA Own Theatre, Wardour Street (two showings at 10:30 and 2:30 for press and trade only). UA then distributed the film as an optional rather than general release, leaving individual cinemas to decide if their patrons wanted bop, calypso or neither.
