When screenwriter A.I. Bezzerides was asked about the complex layers of meaning running through his adaptation of Mickey Spillane‘s classic crime novel “Kiss Me Deadly,” he denied having any conscious intention of exploring the post-wwii anxieties that gave the film its jittery core. “People ask me about the hidden meanings in the script,” he told an interviewer. “About the A-bomb, about McCarthyism, what does the poetry mean, and so on. And I can only say that I didn’t think about it when I wrote it . . . I was having fun.” Bezzerides may have been just “having fun,” but in the process, he and director Robert Aldrich crafted one of the greatest noirs of all time, an apocalyptic detective story that looks into the heart of 1950s America and sees annihilation.

Charlie Wright’s casting as Rodrick Heffley in the fourth live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid film sparked the #NotMyRodrick meme, which the actor claimed had “ruined my career”. In a video about the incident that was uploaded on YouTube and TikTok on Sunday, the actor addressed the harsh criticism he received after playing Rodrick Heffley in what is considered to be his first public statement.
In the nine-minute clip, Wright talked about the negative reaction that followed the initial release of David Bowers’ Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul trailer in early 2017. This revelation has sparked outrage among fans, who are now calling for a much-needed change in the entertainment industry.

Exclusive: HBO Max has put in development The Probability of Miracles, a limited drama series based on Wendy Wunder’s book. The project hails from writer Katie Lovejoy, Alloy Entertainment (Gossip Girl reboot) and Warner Bros TV.
In a competitive situation, Alloy acquired rights to the book and Lovejoy is attached to pen the series adaptation and executive produce.
The series revolves around dry, sarcastic, 16-year-old Cam Cooper who has spent the last seven years in and out hospitals. The last thing she wants to do in the short life she has left is move 1,500 miles away to Promise, Maine, a place known for the miraculous events that occur there. But it’s undeniable that strange things happen in Promise: everlasting sunsets; purple dandelions; flamingoes in the frigid Atlantic; an elusive boy named Asher; and finally, a mysterious envelope containing a list of things for Cam to do before she dies.

Exclusive: NBC is developing Vantage Point, a character-driven thriller drama series based on the 2008 Sony movie. The TV adaptation comes from the film’s writer, Barry Levy, and producer, Neil H. Moriz via his Original Film, as well as Josh Berman’ Osprey Productions and Sony Pictures TV where Berman and Moritz have overall deals.
The film, which starred Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, William Hurt and Sigourney Weaver, told the story of an assassination attempt on the President of the United States through the vantage points of different characters.
Here is how the TV series is described: In the age of fake news, the truth can seem inadequate at best and skewed at worst. By embracing a multitude of different perspectives – ranging from government operatives to civilian informants to innocent bystanders – viewers will find themselves in the unique position of deciding what actually happened.

Exclusive: Fox has handed a script-to-series commitment to The Long Haul, a mother-daughter trucking drama from writer Katie Lovejoy, producer Josh Berman and Sony Pictures TV where Berman’s Osprey Prods. is based.
Written by Lovejoy, The Long Haul is set against the backdrop of the hyper-masculine world of long haul trucking. It is about a young mother and her teenage daughter who flee their small-town. The series charts the journey of these two disenfranchised women navigating life on the road and their dysfunctional relationship, as they slowly, mile by mile, take their power back.
Lovejoy executive produces with Osprey’s Berman and Jennifer Robinson. Sony Pictures TV co-produces with Fox Entertainment.
I hear the deal includes a pilot script, a backup script and a short bible with an option for additional material, which would help Fox brass make an informed decision whether to proceed with a straight-to-series order.

In mid-March, while Americans were beginning to reckon with job losses and isolation spurred by coast-to-coast shelter-in-place orders, Bj Barham performed the American Aquarium songbook for shut-in fans via livestream, one album at a time. On the sixth night, he debuted the band’s new album, Lamentations (New West Records), released on Friday.
As Barham performed skeletal, acoustic versions of the songs, he kept reaching back to the title track, “Me + Mine (Lamentations),” to explain the album’s theme. In the song, inspired by the Old Testament’s Book of Lamentations,...

When Rowan Chapman first set out to create a ‘career longevity’ guide for aspiring and young actors, full of survival tactics to help them cope with the pressures of the industry, it wasn’t initially clear that what he was crafting would end up in large part as a mental health and wellbeing resource.
Launched this week, The Long Haul is a free website with advice that spans graduation from drama school, finding an agent, working with casting directors and maintaining professional relationships. But further, it also offers advice on cultivating a healthy attitude to creativity, dealing with rejection, nutrition, fitness, sleep, body image issues, finances, self doubt and career obsession, and knowing when you aren’t okay and need to reach out for help.
Its content and research was generated and vetted over four years by 150 industry professionals, including actors, casting directors, producers, directors and distributors, as well as...

The Long Haul is Tony nominee Norbert Leo Butz's first original album. Butz has always been one of the more unconventional, versatile voices in contemporary musical theatre, and this album gives him a new chance to shine as both a singer and as a songwriter. It's a pleasant, bluegrass and country-tinged set of songs that doesn't break new ground but is a perfectly enjoyable album overall.

comScore today announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of June 04, 2017, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.
By this time, you’re probably more than aware that Wonder Woman exceeded all sorts of expectations this past weekend when it, not only surprised critics and fans with its amazing quality, but with its ridiculous box office performance. Weeks ago, it was speculated that the film would only take in around $65 million domestically, but it went above and beyond, taking in $100.5 million, securing its place as the highest grossing opener for a film directed by a woman. Wonder Woman also received an A CinemaScore, meaning audiences that went to see it pretty much got exactly what they wanted out of the flick. This is usually a sign that a movie will have a long life in theaters, but we’ll have to see is that comes to fruition,...

This weekend was an interesting one. Here we have Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the latest entry in a franchise whose previous films have either cracked $1 billion, or gotten ridiculously close. There hasn’t been a film in the series for a solid six years, and yet we weren’t quite sure if there was still an audience for it, especially in today’s blockbuster-laden world. Well, it doesn’t sound like this film will be breaking any records, as it’s only taken in $62.2 million in its first weekend, the second lowest next the original back in 2003. What’s worse is that this is a film that likely will not have much of a tail. Sure, with its A- CinemaScore, most...

The fourth Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie arrives in the UK this weekend. Well, we liked it...
Where possible, I try and write a review of a film without having seen anyone else’s opinions of it first. I’ve got plenty of time afterwards to assess just how wrong I am in the eyes of the world.
Last weekend, then, rather than attend a press show, I took my children of varying ages (which tends to be how children work) to the new Wimpy Kid film, The Long Haul. I’ve enjoyed the first three, and particular applaud the quite brilliantly cast company of young performers. But young performers grow old and so, five years after Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 3, The Long Haul arrives with the same director (David Bowery), author Jeff Kinney still heavily involved, but a totally new cast.

Coming into this weekend, we here at Lrm asked ourselves whether or not Alien: Covenant would help propel the franchise forward, or if it would prove that the momentum had officially drained. While We can’t say that this weekend is a complete bust, It’s fair to call it a bit of a disappointment. Our own Weekend Warrior thought the film would come in at around $55 million, and early Thursday numbers showed the film tracking at $40-$45 million. But when all said and done, it only came out with $36 million — a much lower figure than even conservative estimates. As of right now, there’s no real solid reason as to why this was. Perhaps it was the fact that audiences are facing blockbuster overkill, and...

This weekend could feature a little excitement at the top of the box office as Fox debuts Alien: Covenant into theaters domestically where it hopes to end the the two week reign of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the top of the box office and depending on who you ask it could go either way. Fox will also release the fourth film in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, and Warner Bros. is releasing Everything, Everything, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, hoping to find some of the magic they found last year in Me Before You. Starting with the battle between Alien: Covenant and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, we're currently anticipating a #1 finish for what is effectively now the eighth film in the Alien franchise. Covenant is a sequel to 2012's Prometheus, which is...

Welcome to the “Preview Reel” column, where we look at this week’s upcoming wide release movies. This week features a trio of new releases, with one of them poised to knock Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 off the top spot. Alien: Covenant should debut at number one since it continues the popular and long-lasting Alien franchise, while Diary of the Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul looks to please the family crowd, and Everything, Everything goes after the teen romance crowd.

What we are excited about: It’s another Alien movie. It’s directed by Ridley Scott. Michael Fassbender (arguably the best part of Prometheus [2012]) returns. We have something very serious to discuss this week.
With the recasting for the 4th Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie: The Long Haul, the comedic soul of the series (and emo dream boy), Roderick Heffley has been replaced by an actor who looks like Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka. And we know, like us, you won’t stand idle while this happens. Devon Bostick is Rodrick. He will always be Rodrick.
And if you have no idea what we’re talking about, you really need to get on your meme game — but we’ll explain the #NotMyRodrick movement to you anyway.

A second trailer dropped for the third film in our favourite franchise about minions. Steve Carell is taking on double duty as he not only returns as Gru, but we also get to meet his twin brother, Dru. The two team up for another heist, and they definitely look like they'll make one hilarious duo.
Check out the new trailer for Despicable Me 3 below and see the film when it hits Cineplex theatres on June 30th.
Baby Driver
Have you heard of Baby Driver yet?!
This one is from Edgar Wright, the writer/director of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Enough said, right? It's about a young getaway...

Only in our wildest dreams would Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston co-star in a film about cavemen.
Well, it looks we have it with Early Man. A new teaser for the film dropped today, and its the latest from Nick Park, the man behind classics like Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. We don't know too much about this one, other than it being another claymation film that takes place at the dawn of time. We love these films and so we're super pumped for this. Check out the new teaser below!
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books were a total sensation, and the films truly capture the hilarity of the series. We're excited to see this new installment,...

The Fosters is known for bringing on the drama at a break-neck pace. That's why when they choose to slow things down and give us a drama-lite installment, you cherish it for everything that it is.
There were so man feel-good feels on The Fosters Season 4 Episode 16. There were adorable couples and precious moments to be treasured throughout the entire hour.
I love the moms so much. My heart is bursting, and my eyes are teary.
Every time we're graced with the presence of legendary Annie Potts, it's bound to be an absolute delight. Sharon is such a fun, lovable, eccentric character.
She's the epitome of the "fun grandma," and she always comes with pearls of wisdom, heaping doses of wackiness, and a whole lot of love.
This time, she came with her beau, Will, played by the equally as lovable Rob Morrow. Of course,...
