In the crucifixion scene, it takes 10 blows of the hammer to nail Jesus' left hand and 14 blows to nail his right. It takes 6 blows of the hammer to nail his left foot and 7 blows to nail his right. 37 blows in all. Jesus remains silent during this ordeal and does not even flinch. Meanwhile the two thieves are shown tied to their crosses rather than nailed. This follows a tradition that Jesus' crucifixion had to be unique. Thus the thieves must be crucified in an alternate manner.
