Quotes

  • Dr. Luke Canfield : I don't suppose you know why he's locked himself in his office, do you?

John Gant : He's afraid of me.

  • Dr. Luke Canfield : You were expecting that to happen, weren't you?

    John Gant : I wasn't surprised.

Dr. Luke Canfield : You killed him.

John Gant : You're wrong, Physician. He started killing himself long before I ever got here.

  • John Gant : I like you, Physician. You're like me. You and I may well be the only two honest men in town.

Dr. Luke Canfield : Don't compare us. We've got nothing in common.

    John Gant : Everybody dies.

  • [last lines]

Dr. Luke Canfield : Gant... I could take a look at that arm.

John Gant : Don't worry about it, Physician. Everything comes to a finish.

  • Judge Benson : Viciousness in men, Luke, is inside. Deep inside.

Dr. Luke Canfield : But why? What caused it? I keep wanting to know what makes him tick.

Judge Benson : Well, it's usually a kind of logical progression. A youngster starts running with a gang. Sooner or later they're killed off or sent to prison until he's the only one left. He's gotten away with killing and he keeps going with it... alone. He can't let himself even like someone because some day he might have to kill them. By then there's no turning back. Even if he wants to throw his gun away, he can't because he knows that just around the bend there's someone that will kill him.
