Shakti Samanta's rare attempt in having a story with a village backdrop! Showed the uplifting of the villagers' lives with the construction of dams. Sunil Dutt did well, but Madhubala was gorgeous. Music by S. D. Burman was good, particularly the songs, "Janu janu ri kahe khanke hai tora kangna" by Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosle and "Chand sa mukhda kyon sharmaya" by Mohd. Rafi and Asha Bhosle being really good. "Yeh chanda roos ka na ye japan ka" and "O' mehnatkash insaan jaag utha" were other good numbers.
