The working title for this film was suggested by James Mason himself. He thought of the title "A Touch of Larceny", as stated in his autobiography, "Before I Forget".
The studio wanted David Niven to play the lead, but producer Ivan Foxwell insisted on James Mason.
George Sanders and Martin Stephens would meet again a few months later in Village of the Damned (1960).
