Drowned in a torrent of clichés.

The director only made two movies and its' sure easy to see why ; this one is a dud, in which even the great Alida Valli ,one of my favorite Italian actresses , is ridiculous in her part of an over possessive mom ,looking like a poor man's Tennessee Williams' character.

Plot : Mom Livia does not want her sons to leave her ;if they get married ,she wants a daughter-in-law she chooses (a girl she can control) ;she has already ruined the marriage of her elder whose wife has run away because she could not stand her mom-in-law anymore .The younger son , Claude ,a bashful composer , takes a rebel stand :he meets Anita by a torrent (check the title) and soon they get married ; Livia's furor knows no bound .She will go out of her way to separate the newlyweds.

The screenplay is exponential soap opera ,badly acted and badly directed ; the mother's scheme is particularly stupid ,and the way her shy son reacts to events takes naivete to new limits.

There's even a comic (?) relief;a private eye wants to be on a slimming cure in a massage center run by the elder's former wife ,but "we only have women here" .No connection with the abysmal plot.
