"Lustgården" was the first project of Färgfilmklubben (The Color Film Club) created by Ingmar Bergman as an aid to his transition to / use of color film. Included in the club was the two cinematographers Gunnar Fischer and Sven Nykvist, the producer Allan Ekelund, the make-up artist Börje Lundh, the production designer P. A. Lundgren, the costume designer Mago (Max Goldstein) and the editor Ulla Ryghe. As a first step, Bergman ordered the whole group to undergo an eye examination at Karolinska Hospital.
