Sandy starts to think that Lee might be guilty of the murder of Ann. Elliot has left for New York to look for Allison. Connie has some pregnancy troubles and is brought to the hospital by Betty. Peyton wants Rodney to encourage Betty to convince Steven to withdraw from the case. Norman and Rita have a fight over what to do about his career future. Connie goes into premature labor.

Elliot returns from his trip to New York to stand by Connie as their son is born. Steven asks Betty to spy for him at the Peyton mansion, convincing her to try and get information which could help him at the defending of Lee. Connie feels that her son Matthew is a replacement for Allison. Steven doesn't allow Lee to go on stand during the trial. Peyton asks Betty to forbid Steven from defending Lee, but she refuses to.

Steven tells Betty that he will go as far as he has to to get the truth out of Peyton and Hannah. Peyton forces Hannah to leave Peyton Place, after telling Steven that she is going to New York. He explains that it is a plan, trying to find out how important Hannah is to Steven. When she tells Steven, he immediately suspects Peyton is behind it. Meanwhile, Fowler offers Chris to testify against Lee, but he doesn't accept. Rodney, Norman and Rita visit Connie's baby. Norman tells Rita that they too could have a baby, but only if he drops out of college and works full time.

Fowler questions Michael about Steven's relationship with Ann. Confused, Michael contacts Peyton, demanding information about whether Hannah met Ann on the day of her death. Peyton's unclear answers make Michael suspect there is more to the story of why Ann died. Meanwhile, Steven tries to make clear to Lee how serious the trial is. Rita tells Connie that she is ready to have a child, but that she can't, because Norman is still in college. At the start of the trial, Chris takes a seat at the prosecution's side, much to Lee's rage.

Michael gives a testimony in court. Afterwards, Elliot is upset he didn't attack Lee in it. When Betty finds out Hannah is leaving town, she responds by saying she hopes she never comes back. Judge Chester is unsatisfied with the trial, feeling that both Steven and Fowler are crossing the lines. Steven assures him he has a strategy, for which Chester warns him.

In court, Steven tries to make Mike consider the possibility that Ann killed herself. Mike admits that that was his first thought when he found out that she died. Meanwhile, Rita asks Connie if she can work as Matthew's babysitter. Norman doesn't approve it, thinking it could enlarge her desire of having babies. Hannah returns to Peyton Place at the same moment Fowler is visiting the Peyton mansion. Peyton threatens to call for an attorney when Fowler immediately starts interrogation. After Fowler leaves, Peyton becomes mad at Hannah, but she responds that she doesn't need his permission for her decisions.

Steven wants Sandy to behave as a supporting wife, so it will look like Lee is a good natured man. Chris tells Steven he doesn't believe that Steven thinks that Lee is innocent. Elliot offers Michael to be Matthew's godfather. Steven lies to Fowler that he sympathized for his mother when he found out Ann was his sister. Fowler has plans to manipulate Norman's testimony. Sandy admits to Rodney that she doesn't love Lee anymore. Rodney feels that she is trying to seduce him and pulls her away from him.

Sandy tries to grow closer to Rodney and, although he tries to do the opposite, they end up kissing each other. When Steven and Lee find out that Chris is testifying against Lee, Steven wants to show the judge that Chris' hatred for Lee for blinding him is too big to give an honest testimony. Elliot and Eli discuss the motivation for Allison's leaving and they mention did take along the bracelet Elliot gave her. Sandy visits Lee in prison and he becomes outraged when she admits that she and Rodney kissed. Norman and Rita go camping in the woods. At night, they enter an abandoned cabin and they notice a girl sleeping there. Assuming it is Allison, they decide to wake her up.

When Norman and Rita find a girl in the cabin, they try to talk to her, but she is awfully scared and tries to run away. Trying to help her, they refuse to let her go. She starts to struggle and eventually falls unconscious. It is then when Norman and Rita notice Allison's bracelet in her hands. Meanwhile, Sandy turns to Rodney for emotional support, but she feels as if he treats her as dirt. She admits that she told what happened between them to Lee and warns him that he will most likely go after him if he is released from jail. They are later seen driving in the same car, which upsets Steven. At the hospital, Norman asks for Dr. Rossi's help to take care of the girl from the cabin. She refuses to identify herself and when Dr. Rossi tries to take back Allison's bracelet, she unsuccessfully tries to stab him with a pair of scissors.

Nobody is able to calm the unidentified girl, with nurse Choate even calling her vicious. Elliot tries to find out how she got Allison's bracelet, but she is too frightened to speak. Her fright worries Elliot, suspecting that something terrible has happened to Allison. Meanwhile, Steven asks Rodney not to hang out with Sandy anymore, explaining it could influence the trial. Chris gives his testimony in court, saying that he was secretly at the bluff around the time Ann died and that he heard Lee with her, shortly before she fell.

Steven tries to prove that Chris' story as a witness of Ann's death isn't trust-able. Connie receives a prank call from an anonymous man claiming he has seen Allison. At the hospital, Rachel is finally trusting the people around her. Elliot initially planned to interrogate her, but Michael stops him, explaining she needs her rest.

Rodney brings a visit to the girl with Allison's bracelet, but she reacts violently when he tries to talk to her. Hannah begs Betty for forgiveness for treating her badly. For a moment, Betty sympathizes for her, until she finds out Hannah is only using her to not be forced to testify in court. Back in the hospital, Elliot tries to convince Dr. Rossi to let Connie talk to the wild girl. Later, the girl reveals herself as Rachel, just like in the bible. She doesn't remember where she was born, but she does say that she is either 18 or 19 years old. He tries to make her explain how she got Allison's bracelet, and she responds she found it somewhere.

Rodney fears the trial could have impact on Peyton's health and decides to spend some time with him. Betty wants Steven not to include Hannah as a witness of Ann's death, but he refuses to take her advice. Sandy blames Chris for having lied in court to get back at his brother. Dr. Rossi tells Rachel she is almost recovered from the fall in the cabin and will be turned into the authorities unless she tells him who she is. As he sympathizes for her faith, he offers her a job at the hospital, which she reluctantly accepts, as she realizes it is the only way to have her freedom assured. They are interrupted with a visit from Rodney, who tells Dr. Rossi he fears that Hannah will kill Peyton.

Rachel starts working in a minor job at the hospital. Her mental problems make Dr. Rossi think she isn't co-operative and when he threatens to send her into the hands of the juvenile authorities, she again reacts violently. Meanwhile, Lee feels hurt by Chris' testimony, which in his opinion, is one big lie. Rodney tries to stop Fowler from including Peyton in the trial. Rachel has locked herself into the room, but Rita is able to win her trust.

Dr. Rossi receives a visit from Mrs. Burroughs, a woman who lived on a farm near Rachel. She explains that Rachel's parents died and that her aunt Lucy Chandler, whom she was living with, died a week ago. She warns him not to send her back to Lucy's husband Jack, claiming that he is not fit to take care of her, because he is godless. Meanwhile, Connie testifies in court, where she tries to explain how dangerous Lee was. Rachel is searching for Rita and stumbles upon Rodney, who bothers her with wanting information about Allison.

Rachel starts to worry when she realizes the police are searching for her. The next morning, Eli notices that she spent the night on a park bench and they get acquainted. She confides in him that her uncle treated her horribly, even poisoning her dog. Meanwhile, Steven tells Betty he wants to sell their apartment, explaining he can't live in a place his mother paid for. Dr. Rossi warns Betty that people with the same career drive as Steven usually suffer from heart attacks at age 40. Rachel meets up with Rita and tells her that she would rather die than go back to Jack Chandler. Eli overhears their conversation and promises her to find out how old she is. He tells her that if she is 21 years old, they can't make her go back to Jack. She trusts him, until she finds out he is Elliot's father.

Rodney again forces Rachel to tell everything she knows about Allison. When she denies knowing anything, he takes her to the police station. There, she is forced to go to prison until her uncle arrives. When Rita finds out about that, she is determined to protect her. Meanwhile, Sandy tries to make Betty jealous by telling about her relationship with Rodney. The hatred between Martin and Hannah grows when he puts back Catherine's painting to the wall. Eli feels that everyone is treating Rachel as if she were a witch in Salem. Connie receives a prank call from a girl pretending to be Allison.

Norman and Rita offer to have Rachel live with them, but Michael tells them they can't take her in because they are only 19 years old. Elliot feels that Leslie is trying to convince him to hate Peyton. Rachel feels that she is being punished for having left the hospital. She promises Michael she will work hard if she can stay at the hospital, but he responds that the hospital is for sick people only. As a reaction, she stabs herself in the hand. Meanwhile, Steven fears that Peyton's testimony could ruin his career. Rodney feels guilty about having sent Rachel to the police.

While having her wounds stitched in the hospital, Rachel tells Dr. Rossi about the abuse in her past. She tells him that Jack beat her up regularly with a belt, but that she refused to cry. She says that she always went to the cabin in the woods when she wanted to be away from her uncle. When Michael hears that Jack even went as far as sexual abuse, he promises her that she won't have to go back to him. He contacts Steven to help him prohibit Rachel from having to return to Jack, but he is too drunk to help. Steven later lets out all his anger towards Peyton to Betty.

Norman wants to attend Peyton's testimony, but feels that he shouldn't. Peyton speaks about the conversation between Ann and Hannah, shortly before she died. He tells that Ann was emotionally exhausted when she left. When Steven tries to examine him, Peyton suffers a minor heart attack and trial has to be postponed. Steven suspects that he is faking it. Dr. Rossi announces that he is perfectly able to go back to stand, but Peyton is making up excuses not to. Jack Chandler arrives in Peyton Place to get Rachel Welles.

Jack tries to visit Rachel, but he isn't allowed to see her. Judge Chester thinks Steven's interrogation with Peyton is going too far and suggests him to withdraw from the case if he continues to act unprofessional. Nevertheless, Steven is able to prove that Peyton was in no way capable to draw a conclusion from Hannah and Ann's conversation. Peyton claims that their conversation is of minor importance, but Steven tries to prove that Peyton and Hannah pushed Ann over the edge. Steven's continuing unprofessional behavior leads him to having to pay a fine of 500 dollars. Meanwhile, Jack finds a way to Rachel, which upsets her very much. Dr. Rossi sends him away and threatens to call the police if he returns.

Dr. Rossi promises Rachel that Jack won't return. Leslie expresses his disappointment in Steven, but Betty responds by blaming him for being too afraid to confront Peyton himself. Hannah is excited to receive a phone call from Steven, inviting her over. Peyton thinks Steven has given up on trial. When Hannah drops by, she is enthusiastic, until she finds out that he only invited her over to give up his apartment. Meanwhile, Michael wants Fowler to help him get a restraining order against Jack. Jack comes in next and claims that Michael is only keeping Rachel in the hospital for personal reasons. He swears that he never mistreated her and always provided her a roof over her head and food. He claims that Rachel was the bad person, acting like a wild girl, even kicked out of school. He agrees not to visit her, though, but insists on winning her custody in court.

Rachel refuses to receive Constance's visit, but Michael convinces her to. Chris confronts Sandy with her connection to Rodney. Hannah is seen entering Ann's apartment. Lee blames Steven for ruining his chances on winning the case and tells him that he can't bear jail any longer. Rodney and Norman try to greet Hannah, but she doesn't seem to notice them. Rachel tells Connie that she never saw Allison and blames her for Allison running away in the first place. But after she tells her in detail about the day her parents died in a fire, Connie comforts her.

Connie takes Matthew outside for the first time. Steven tells Betty that he will try to prove that Hannah mentally pushed Ann over the edge, causing her to kill herself. Rachel is forced to talk to Jack. He tries to convince her to come with him, because she isn't capable of taking care of herself. He tells her that he doesn't believe that she doesn't remember where she found Allison's bracelet and forces her to tell the truth. When he threatens her, she responds that she will tell that she found it in his car if he doesn't leave her alone.

Jack threatens to get Rachel and Michael if she blackmails him. Steven interrogates Hannah. He points out her bitterness against Ann. After an emotional interrogation, she admits that she had a second meeting with Ann at the bluff, shortly before she died. Meanwhile, Elliot recalls having seen Jack before. He questions Rachel about it, but she doesn't want to talk about him.

Rachel apologizes to Connie for her behavior. Elliot recently has found out that Jack has a mysterious past, because he can't find any information about it. Meanwhile, Hannah claims that she saw Lee pushing Ann off the cliff. Steven attacks her for not reporting it and tries to prove that she is lying. Peyton stands up for her, which causes a commotion in court. Shortly after, Hannah reveals that she is neither Ann nor Steven's biological mother. She shocks everyone by revealing that Catherine was their real mother. She further tells that Catherine had an affair with her husband and that Martin paid Brian Corby to keep silent. Steven proceeds interrogating her and she answers his questions by saying that she told the entire truth to Ann shortly before her death and begged her for forgiveness. Hannah explains that Peyton tried to hide the scandal by assigning her as the twin's mother.

Peyton feels that he has failed as a father. He tells Michael that he doesn't believe that Ann could ever have committed suicide and promises him that he will make Lee pay for what he has done. Meanwhile, Leslie admits to Rodney that he was almost never close to Catherine. Later at the mansion, Leslie gives Hannah a hard time, claiming that she was the one who pushed Ann off the cliff. Michael doesn't believe Rachel when she tells him nothing went on during her conversation with Jack. Elliot is trying to find out if Jack Chandler has ever been in prison.

Jack assures Elliot that Rachel is telling the truth about how she found the bracelet, explaining that she never lies. Leslie confronts Peyton with the truth finally revealed, to which he responds that Leslie has never belonged in the Peyton mansion. Norman is furious about Hannah's revealing, realizing that his mother was as crazy as everyone else thinks. Rita tries to comfort him, but he doesn't let her, saying that he will never have children.

Rodney is mad at Martin Peyton for hiding a huge secret for all those years, but he rationalizes it by explaining that he did it to protect Catherine. Rodney admits that he doesn't remorse not having loved his mother. Meanwhile, Betty is worried about Steven, who has been missing since Hannah's testimony. Michael tells to Rachel that Jack won't force her to go back to the farm, but that she will have to go to a foster home because she is a minor. Steven returns and claims to Betty that he isn't mad about the truth.

Judge Chester decides not to bind Lee Webber over for trial, and he is released from prison. Martin congratulates Steven, but still holds Lee accountable for Ann's death and vows to see him punished. Chris implores Sandy to leave his brother and go to Boston, where he promises to meet her once Lee is brought to justice. But Lee arrives home before she can leave.

Lee tries to stop Sandy from leaving him. Rachel tries to learn more about Michael's relationship with Ann, but he doesn't like to talk about it. Steven makes clear to Rodney that knowing that they are brothers will not change anything between them. Michael tells Rachel he can't keep an eye on Rachel all the time and asks Connie to take her in. Connie agrees and immediately bonds with her. Rachel later flirts with Rodney, which makes him feel uncomfortable.

Jack orders Rachel to not ever tell anyone about his connection to Allison. Hannah packs to leave town and tells Martin Peyton that she doesn't have a definite destination to go to. Elliot is against Rachel moving in with them, feeling that Connie sees as her as a replacement for Allison. Hannah assures to Betty that Steven's obsession with Peyton is greater than his love for her and advices her to always stand by Steven no matter what. Peyton tells Norman that he has to accept that his mother was a morally corrupt woman. Lee warns Rodney not to see Sandy anymore.

Hannah comes to Steven to say goodbye to him, but he takes this opportunity to find out if she were lying about having seen Lee killing Ann. Before leaving, she assures him that she wasn't lying and he admits that he wants to love her, but can't. Meanwhile, Rachel starts studying to one day work at the hospital. Peyton gives Mary and Thomas the night off to be alone at the mansion. Rita wants Peyton's help to assure Norman that he won't turn into his mother, but he responds that he can't help. Michael packs to go on vacation, visiting old friends. Elliot finally agrees to take in Rachel. Hannah sets Catherine's painting on fire.

Norman notices that Rachel is a very quick learner. Steven and Betty arrive at the Peyton mansion, noticing that it is on fire. Steven doesn't hesitate and goes in, saving Peyton's life. When Rachel hears the sirens, she gets extremely scared, confiding in Rodney that is because her parents died at a fire. In the hospital, it is revealed that Peyton is in critical condition. Betty confronts Steven with his obsession with Peyton.

While still in critical condition, Peyton asks Steven what he wants in return for saving his life. Rachel is reluctant to move into the Carson home, because she knows that Elliot isn't fond of her. Lee still is angry about Sandy's short lived affair with Rodney. Rodney tells Rachel that she is acting as a spoiled brat, because she is mad at Michael for going on vacation. Rachel tells him that she refuses to live with the Carsons, thinking that it is a charity act, but Rodney forces her to do otherwise. At the Peyton mansion, Steven announces that he wants to move in.

Rachel moves into the Carson home and adjusts to being Matthew's babysitter. Lee promises Sandy that he will make her want him back. She turns to Rodney, but he asks her to stay away from him. Lee tries to visit Martin Peyton, but is stopped by Steven, who tells him that he hates him.

The tension between Chris and Lee grows. Leslie tells Rodney that Steven having saved Martin could work against him and advices him to do anything to stop Steven from gaining power. Martin offers Betty to decorate the mansion, which is in repair. Rita thinks of arranging a date between Rod and Rachel. Chris secretly steals Ada's gun.

Chris is intending to use the gun to kill Lee. Lee announces he got a job at a fisher's boat. Before Chris is able to shoot him, Sandy comes in, which stops Chris. Meanwhile, Steven announces to Peyton that he will move in with him. The chemistry between Rod and Rachel grows while having dinner at Rita's. Lee and Norman get into a fight at Ada's tavern. Later outside, Chris again attempts to shoot Lee, but he is interrupted by Norman.

Norman misinterprets that Lee was going to attack Chris and takes Chris to his house. Rodney takes Rachel home and is spotted by Jack. Connie admits that she has accepted that Allison has left town. Rodney announces that he is moving out of the Peyton mansion. Jack calls Leslie's office, leaving a message that he is an old friend.

Steven thinks Lee has stolen Ada's gun, unaware that Chris did it. Jack tries to convince Rachel that Elliot and Connie only took her in the house to get more information about Allison. He later announces that he is moving to Peyton Place, and claims that he only has the best intentions for Rachel.

When Rodney announces that he is moving into a garage, Lee gives him a hard time, even vandalizing his place. Lee later attacks Chris, because he tried to stop him when he was harassing Sandy. Meanwhile, Rachel is receiving scary phone calls from Jack. When she admits this to Rodney, he kisses her, shortly before visiting Jack. When he demands that Jack leave Rachel alone, Jack doesn't take him seriously.

Sandy realizes that she can't be with her husband any longer and tries to convince Chris to leave town with her. He promises he will leave with her, but insists on stopping at home alone first. Meanwhile, Peyton admits to Betty that he wouldn't have allowed Steven to move into his mansion if it weren't for her. Chris finds Ada's gun and sets a trap for Lee, unaware that Lee has already found the gun. Ada tells Steven that she is certain that Chris took her gun. Lee phones Steven and lies that Chris is threatening to kill himself.

Chris, thinking it is Lee coming in the house, attempts to shoot Steven. When the police arrive, Steven lies that the gun went off by accident. Meanwhile, Connie wants Michael to return to Peyton Place. Norman is annoyed by Rita's attempts to force him to study and admits that he doesn't know what he wants with his future. Chris tells Steven that he isn't sorry for attempting to kill Lee. He is about to leave Peyton Place and invites Sandy, but she refuses, explaining that she isn't afraid of Lee anymore. Steven assures Lee that he will make him pay for killing Ann. Sandy checks into the Inn and is comforted by Rodney.

Mike returns from vacation. Sandy files for divorce. Steven and Betty move into the Peyton mansion and deal with Leslie's confrontation against Peyton. Mike admits that he doesn't ever intend on leaving Peyton Place. Rodney and Rachel are out on a date. Mike has bought Rachel a dog. Rodney confronts Michael with being jealous about Rachel's affection to him.

Jack advices Rodney not to hurry his relationship with Rachel. When Rita collapses in front of Norman, she admits that she has had these attacks several times. Steven assures Betty that he feels comfortable in the Peyton mansion. Leslie identifies Jack as Jack Forrest, an old acquaintance who has information about Elizabeth Carson. Jack blackmails him for a job. Meanwhile, Sandy moves in Ada's place. Lee forces himself into her house and assures Sandy that he will change her mind about the divorce. Michael tries to make clear to Rachel that they can never become more than friends.

Rachel feels upset over Michael's outburst. Rita is diagnosed with rheumatic fever, but Dr. Rossi suspects she might have a more serious disease: mitral stenosis. Peyton hires Betty as Hannah's replacement. Jack tells Ada about Eddie, her husband who walked out on her. Elliot admits to Eli that he doesn't trust Rachel. Sandy tells Rodney that she is staying in Peyton Place for him. Rodney pushes her away, assuring her that he isn't ready to commit himself. Sandy, however, isn't scared by that, but promises not to bother him anymore.

Rachel thinks her relationship with Rodney is going too fast, but he thinks he isn't able to slow down. Peyton announces that Thomas will be replaced and wants a portrait of Betty to hang in the mansion. Elliot finds out that Rachel is lying about talking to Chandler. Rodney stops by Sandy and kisses her.

Norman wonders why Ada never told him she knows Chandler. Lee notices an advertisement in the paper to be Peyton's chauffeur. Rachel admits to Rita that she found Allison's bracelet in Chandler's car and plans on leaving Peyton Place for holding the information from the Carsons. Sandy promises Rodney that there won't be any strings on their relationship. Connie is mad at Elliot for scaring Rachel away.
