My Blood Runs Cold (1965) Poster

Barry Sullivan: Julian Merriday

Quotes

  • Julian Merriday : Gunther!

Julian Merriday : Good morning, Mr. Merriday.

Julian Merriday : Gunther, you and I have something to discuss. You've been trying to sell my daughter some idiotic story about her being the reincarnation of Barbara Merriday. It won't work, Gunther, won't work.

Ben Gunther : Sir, I'm not trying to play any games.

Julian Merriday : Oh, come on, boy, you don't think I was born yesterday. You're not the first cheap opportunist who's tried to latch onto my daughter, you won't be the last. I should have nailed you when you first made that pretty little speech about not wanting something for nothing.

Ben Gunther : I guess I'd feel the same if I were in your shoes.

Julian Merriday : Gunther, I don't think I need the benefit of your philosophy or your understanding. Just stay away from Julie.

    Ben Gunther : What if I don't?

Julian Merriday : Let me explain the facts of life to you, boy. I own a large portion of this peninsula. I might not be able to do anything legally but I can make life pretty uncomfortable for you around here. I'd keep that in mind, if I were you.

Ben Gunther : You don't beat around the bush, do you Sir?

Julian Merriday : I also have the reputation for meaning what I say.

Ben Gunther : So I've heard. I appreciate your frankness, Sir. But I'm in love with your daughter.

    Julian Merriday : In love?

Ben Gunther : So, you'll just have to bring on the big guns

Julian Merriday : Alright, Gunther. But just remember, you asked for it.

  • Aunt Sarah : Julian! You and I know that it's an absolute miracle that she wasn't killed in that wreck on the lake last summer. And according to Harry, there was a guardian angel on duty again this morning.

Julian Merriday : Harry's an old woman.

Aunt Sarah : That's a matter of opinion. But unless you put a ring on that child, she's going to end up in a morgue. Do you really want to be responsible for that?

Julian Merriday : I know, I know, I ought to send her to Paris so she can live in a garret and practice free love and develop what you're so fond of calling "meaningful relationships".

Aunt Sarah : No! I think it's a little late for that. I think our only hope, Julian, is to get her married.

    Julian Merriday : Married?

Aunt Sarah : That's right. The thing nice people do when they want to have children.

  • Julie Merriday : Why did you tell him I was restoring Spindrift?

Julian Merriday : Oh, I was just trying to be courteous, after you cut him off so abruptly.

Julie Merriday : You practically issued him an invitation, and I don't think Harry was amused.

Julian Merriday : How would you know?

Julie Merriday : What is that supposed to mean?

Julian Merriday : You know, I don't think I've ever seen your unofficial fiancé in anything but an affable mood. Just once I'd like to see some fire in Harry. I thought maybe a little touch of competition might bring it out.

Julie Merriday : "Competition"? From your "remarkable young man"? When I want your help to find beaus, I'll let you know.

    [turns and runs off]

  • Aunt Sarah : I'll tell you again, in words of one syllable, because it's very difficult to reach you, Julian. Julie's gone. She's left. Departed! She's with Ben Gunther. She's going to marry him.

Julian Merriday : [almost in a whisper]  Oh my god... Oh my god.
