"Petticoat Junction" was the unofficial second part of the Paul Henning Hooterville trilogy, a trio of 1960s sitcoms about the clash between city slickers and country bumpkins. In 1962, Henning created "The Beverly Hillbillies," a series about hillbillies who, when they strike oil, move to Beverly Hills. In 1965, he inverted the formula with "Green Acres," a show about millionaires who move to a farm to learn about country living. Sandwiched in between the two was "Petticoat Junction," which debuted on September 24, 1963. "Junction" took place at the Shady Rest Hotel, overseen by the lovable widowed hayseed Kate Bradley (Bea Benederet). She and her uncle Joe (Edgar Buchanan) would run the hotel and oversee the shenanigans of her three daughters Betty Jo, Billie Jo, and Bobbie Jo.
"Petticoat Junction" takes place in the same universe as "Green Acres," as both shows make constant references to common fictional cities that the characters visit. There were a few supporting crossovers,...

DevilDriver have announced a new album, Dealing with Demons Vol. II, and shared the video for lead single “Through the Depths” ahead of the LP’s May 12th release date.
The album news comes as DevilDriver are set to launch their co-headlining US tour with Cradle of Filth on Wednesday (March 8th) in Tempe, Arizona. The outing runs through March 26th in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with tickets available here.
Hopefully, the new song is a part of DevilDriver’s upcoming setlists. “Through the Depths” is a vicious, black metal-tinged ripper and the first new music from the band since 2020’s Dealing with Demons I — the initial album in the ongoing Dealing with Demons saga. Once again, frontman Dez Fafara’s lyrics are rife with personal reflection and “conversations” between himself and said inner demons.

Man Without a Star
Blu ray
Kino Lorber
1955/ 2.00:1 / 89 min.
Starring Kirk Douglas, William Campbell, Jeanne Crain, Claire Trevor
Cinematography by Russell Metty
Directed by King Vidor
King Vidor, the director behind the bucolic Kansas sequences in The Wizard of Oz and the histrionics of Duel in the Sun, has it both ways in 1955’s Man Without a Star starring Kirk Douglas.
Douglas follows his director’s lead – acting primarily with his teeth, the eager to please ham gives a performance almost as broad as his wayward sailor in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. But as screenwriter Borden Chase slowly pulls back the masks on his characters, Douglas settles into a more reasonable approximation of a human being.
Closing in on 40, the irrepressible show-off plays a wandering cowpoke named Dempsey Rae who follows constellations for clues to his destiny and so far he’s come up empty – the “man without a star.

Spring has (mostly) sprung; the birds chirp and the salt coats the cars, so I thought we would look at a film that is light, frothy, and fills the lungs with the smell of blood-splattered pine cones and fresh water memories. I’m speaking of course about Twitch of the Death Nerve (1971), Mario Bava’s notorious ‘body count’ film that was ground zero for our beloved ‘80s slashers.
Why was it notorious? Well, this was not the elegant gothic tinged giallo audiences were expecting from the master of such; in fact the gritty and unpleasant shocker threw a lot of critics for a loop when it splashed across the screen first as Bay of Blood in Italy. Stateside it was picked up by Hallmark Releasing Corporation and renamed Carnage; when that didn’t play, they called it Twitch, which is the default moniker it goes by. Unless you have A Bay of Blood release.

Another offering of vintage East German pictures gives us all the pieces of a cinematic puzzle: Heiner Carow’s 1968 memory- movie of traumatic experiences in WW2 displeased the Communist authorities and was shelved… only to be cannibalized as a back-story for a new 1970 release aimed as a dig at West German values. It’s a fascinating comparison — an ideologically-challenged art film becomes a piece of well-produced propaganda.

When distributor Arrow announced their release of a title called Blood Bath, I assumed it would be another generic eighties'-slasher-with-its-own-peculiar-fans-who-consider-it-a-classic-though-i-have-never-heard-of-it. Looking a bit closer though, this turned out to be something much, much weirder, and Arrow's approach towards this release made it irresistible. Basically, Blood Bath is a weird little black-and-white vampire horror flick from 1966, produced by Roger Corman. Parts of it look really, Really beautiful though, and that is because they've been taken from another film entirely, a Yugoslavia-based crime thriller called Operation Titian. That film turned out to have a re-cut version with additional footage made for the Us as well, called Portrait in Terror, and Blood Bath itself got re-cut with additional footage again as Track of the Vampire. This release...

Britain is in a state of turmoil, with Brexit, political leadership spinning out of control and social media civil war already underway. As such, it has perhaps never been a more appropriate time for a release of John De Bello and Stephen Peace’s 1988 meditation on the path towards peace and racial tolerance, Return Of The Killer Tomatoes, out on Arrow Bluray.
Set ten years after the events of the Great Tomato War, as depicted in uncompromising detail in De Bello and Peace’s earlier epic, Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, tomatoes – following the mutant, sentient, strain responsible for the deaths of many citizens – are now outlawed in the Us. As with all the best banned items, killer tomatoes have now gone underground, with a thriving black market...

Arrow Video’s latest release, Blood Bath, has a storied history. You may be surprised to discover how the footage filmed for it was stretched over four different films. Thankfully Arrow have not only included these four films, but taken a look into a very interesting production…
Blood Bath in its final form is the story of Antonio Sordi (William Campbell) who believed himself to be the reincarnation of a murderous vampire. Killing young women, he then boils them in a vat of wax, using their beauty to create his latest masterpieces which he then sells.
In Blood Bath you can see all the trademarks of a Corman horror film, but this is down to the work of Jack Hill and Stephanie Rothman who worked on rewrites and re-shoots for many of the footage that had been recorded. The film in its original form was actually known as Operation Titian...

★★★☆☆ 1966 vampire film Blood Bath surely has one of the most convoluted production histories in cinema. Produced by the king of schlock himself, Roger Corman, the film started life in 1963 as Operation: Titian, a dull-as-dishwater crime thriller about the theft of a priceless painting in Dubrovnik. Corman was unhappy with the result, and so after re-shoots, a new edit and dubbing, it was released as a television film under the title Portrait in Terror.

This four-feature set is the weirdest cinematic treasure box of the year, a sort of anti-matter film school. Three of the films are derived from a single Yugoslavian picture rejected by Roger Corman. His acolytes Jack Hill and Stephanie Rothman proceeded to add serial killings, supernatural hauntings, a goofy vampire, and an ending that could be called 'Zombies In The Wax Museum.' Tim Lucas tells the whole story in a fascinating feature-length extra docu. Films about mad artists have always been a personal favorite of mine. A basic list would include Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) , House of Horrors (1946) starring the late great Rondo Hatton, House of Wax (1953), Bucket of Blood (1959), and the recent hilarious horror comedy Murder Party (2007). Have fun making up your own list. To it, make sure to add Blood Bath (1966). This weird little number was produced, written and directed by none other than the late ?great? Jack Hill. Hill made schlock but I'll wager you have fond memories of a few of his titles, especially if you are over 40. The Wasp Woman (1960), The Terror (1963), Spider Baby (1968), The Snake People (1971), The Fear Chamber (1971)...

American actor known for his roles in horror films and Star Trek
The actor William Campbell, who has died aged 87, had a long and varied career in films and on television, finding recognition from his association with several low-budget horror pictures and with the TV sci-fi series Star Trek. However, although he had the hooded eyes and languid manner of Robert Mitchum and something of the laid-back anarchism of Jack Nicholson, entry into the major league of stardom eluded him.
Campbell was in the first series of Star Trek, in an episode entitled The Squire of Gothos (1967), in which he has a field day as General Trelane, a foppish, childish humanoid, swinging wildly from joviality to sulkiness to anger. In The Trouble With Tribbles (1967), in the second season, Campbell was equally impressive as Koloth, a bearded, bureaucratic Klingon, a character that he revived 27 years later, towards the end of his working life,...
