The character of Pig-Al is a reference to the Pigalle neighborhood of Paris.
The scene where the Inspector and his motorcycle fall into the water with the gurgling and squishing sounds were reused from the 1961 Looney Tunes cartoon, "The Pied Piper of Guadalupe".
Pig-Al might be a wink and nod to home armored Australian villain Ned Kelly.
Place Pigalle, a Parisian neighborhood, is nodded to in the hideout name, Pig Al's Place.
