- Miss Mary Raines: You heard what the Father said. There's no future for what you joined except hell.
- Detective James McParlan: Well I'm a miner now. I'll be traveling in that direction anyway, just out of habit.
- Davies: Don't get confused about which side you're on.
- Detective James McParlan: I could always tell the buttered side from the dry.
- [Davies has given McParlan a beating, as part of his cover]
- Davies: They'll respect you now. It's about the only thing they do respect round here, a blow and a hard head.
- Jack Kehoe: I'm thinking... you'd better be what we think you are.
- Detective James McParlan: I'm what you think!
- Jack Kehoe: 'Cause if you're not... there's no hole deep enough to hide this time.
- Davies: Yes, I need them caught in the act... no chance of an alibi. And not just two of them. I want the organisation. I want it smashed. Any bastard who even dreams of making trouble, I want him to wake up sweating blood at what happened to the Molly Maguires.
- [McParlan starts to leave]
- Davies: Not yet! I can't send you away unmarked.
- [he floors McParlan with his truncheon]
- Detective James McParlan: [bleeding] Well... it's a pleasure working with a man who likes his job.
- Detective James McParlan: Dougherty, then? You've time enough for that. He's not hanged yet.
- Jack Kehoe: You're a cool one.
- Detective James McParlan: That's the difference between us, Jack.
- Jack Kehoe: I have no coolness in me at all.
- Miss Mary Raines: [answering her door and seeing James for the first time] What do you want?
- Detective James McParlan: [after a pause when taken aback at seeing Samantha for the first time] I'll settle for a room.
