The Ketcham house was also used as the main house in Bret Maverick 1981.
If the show had returned for a second season, James Garner would have returned as Nichols' twin brother Jim, and taken over as Sheriff.
James Garner and Stuart Margolin starred on The Rockford Files (1974) and in Bret Maverick (1981).
James Garner claims that the show was cancelled after one season, because the wife of a Chevrolet executive (Chevrolet being the main sponsor of the series) saw an episode and said, "Well, this isn't Maverick", and Garner claims that the sponsors were expecting the show to be just another Maverick with a new can of paint slapped on it. The show took place in the early twentieth century, which was the end of the Old West and of course Maverick the show that brought Garner his fame took place in the Old West, and that is what they were expecting.
Nichols implies that Ketcham could eventually be elected to the Senate. The show takes place during 1914, which was the first election year that senators were popularly elected. Prior to the ratification of the 17th Amendment in 1913, senators were appointed by the State legislatures.
