The film was planned in 1966 but was finally launched in 1967. A day before the mahurat, Jeetendra backed out. Jeetendra could not handle Raaj Kumar's behavior during the making of Mere Huzoor. Aravind Sen had seen Rajesh Khanna in Raaz and felt he was very talented. He decided to sign him and give him a chance. When Rajesh Khanna became a super star in 1969, Khanna got busy with other films and delayed giving dates to Maryada.
